I recently stumbled upon the AEM F/IC a few days ago, and have been doing a little research into it, and for the price, it seems like a very badass option for tuning. This will be my backup if the Predator doesn't come through, or if i find out this works well with the stock PCM. anyway, from what most people have said, the AEM F/IC is between a simple piggyback and a standalone. One thing i REALLY like about this unit is the fact the the fuel and ignition tables are in 21x17 maps, much higher resolution than most piggybacks.. SAFC is like 12x12, emanage is like 16x16, predator is pretty rough from what i understand. anyway, the only thing the unit can't do, to my understanding as far as tuning goes, is advance timing, which i wouldn't need anyway. it has been tested and verified to work with the SRT-4 which is another bonus. another huge bonus (but pricey) is that boomslang makes a plug-n-play harness so you just plug it in and your rockin and rollin. the F/IC comes with its own built in MAP sensor. you can adjust fueling +- 100%. can adjust for bigger injectors. you can remap the o2 sensors and also remap up to 2 0-5v sensors uses windows interface for tuning. supposedly some pretty nice software, easy to use. theres supposedly some auto tune features in development. (you insert a target AFR at certain points, and it tunes accordingly by your parameters)
Excellent tuning device. I run one in my CSRT, another NSRT owner here in town is running one on his big wheel STG 3. I recommended he go with the AEM over buying a NEO due to the price being about the same. I didn't know a plug and play harness was available, do you happen to have a link? You can load AEM EMS logging software and log all the parameters you choose with the FIC...VERY helpful. Correcting MAP in conjunction with the TIP will increase driveability considerably and as I stated in another post you can tune the exhaust pops on decel out...this really bumps up MPG as the ECU is basically keeping the injectors open for a few milliseconds each time you leave off the gas. Obviously tuning through the O2 you can bump idle/cruise AFR's into upper 15's or even low 16's which also helps squeeze more MPG's.
thanks for the informative response.. here is the site that sells the plug-n-play harness.. they are like 400$, but for most people, would be worth the headache, and they come with all the accesory harness's wired in. http://www.boomslang.us/aemfic.htm what i am really looking for, with the NSRT specifically, is how well this works with the PCM, and if it throws any CELS, or does its job by keeping the PCM happy.
I haven't seen one issue with Josh's STG3 car, but as you and I both know the STG3 ECU is much less prone to set off CEL's as compared to a stock ECU. Search the NSRT boards as I know a few other guys are running them. Or go to AEMpower.com and join the forum, lots of good info in there!
yeah, i joined the AEM forum, didn't get a very good NSRT specific answer, they told me to ask DCR (which i made a topic in there forum on here) because they had installed them on a few customers cars. i have been waiting til they started the diablo predator, but if the F/IC works well with the PCM and doesn't set of CELS, then its just a better option. hopefully DCR will chime in soon.
Get with Primobro (Mike) or Mario (505Streetracer) if you want to see it in action. Mike has this device on his badass skittle and loves it.
Too bad your still not up in Detroit, I'd say hit up Aaron@Realtune for the install/tune. He knows these bad boys inside and out, so if you have any questions I'd shoot Aaron an email. If you do end up purchasing a F/IC, get it from Aaron as you can't beat his customer/tech support.
Whew! $400 is alot of dough man! The wiring is complicated, but not $400 worth! A new engine/ECU harness from Mopar is about $175 so if you screw up that bad, you would have a MUCH cheaper option.
ahh.. badass then.. ill be moving back to MI in a few months, so that works perfect. and yeah, 400$ is pricey, and ill probably be making my own plug-n-play harness, just to make things easier to wire up and take out, if need be. shit, i didn't know mario had the F/IC in his car. thanks ron for the input.
