Yes, that's right the fuel pump re-wire on these cars is a must. Even if your a non-believer. You can get the parts for around $20 or so and create your own kit. There are already kits out there but will range up to $90. The decision is yours. Install was a breeze and I went with the route of getting the parts locally and doing it myself. I just got done a few minutes ago and drove the car around the streets then on the highway. The gas/throttle response is so much smoother. Car feels a bit quicker and smoother. Feels like its running a lot better. This mod is worth it and I recommend it to everybody with these cars! Sorry I have no how-to on this one as the weather is ugly out here. Its been raining on and off all day then it got ugly while I was installing this under my carport. So I needed to just go on and install it to finish it without pausing/taking notes for a how-to. Install is easy. I can type it all out but won't have pictures at this moment.
the reason it works is at the stock pump at idle the pump only gets 10 volts and above 4800rpm it drops to 8 volts and thats a no no on a DC motor and when u hook it up to the alt u will have the 12-14 volts the whole time it will make the pump last longer and give u a little more fuel on the top end ive done the rewire about 10 months ago and i had to retune it cause i was richer
Below quote as far as what it does and how it helps. Did you also need details as far as parts needed? Thanks for the information Chris!
that would be helpful to the members... Its like saying "Getting a hot chick is awesome" and have no details on the hot chick, what is needed to get said hot chick, and or what to do when you get said hot chick...
Lol, alright alright. Well if you want to DIY and get the parts locally. You can go to either Autozone or Discount. I went to Autozone. Parts Needed: 10 gauge wire (8 feet) 10 gauge inline fuse that supports 30amp fuse 30 amp Fuse Female connectors (Yellow 10g and Blue 16g) Close ring connectors (Yellow - 10gauge) 30amp fog lamp relay (Autozone - Duralast Part# 19273 or MR76) Electric tape I will provide a quick How-To with some pics hopefully tomorrow if the weather clears. Tools Needed: 13mm wrench 10mm socket 3/8" extension Ratchet (socket wrench) Wire cutters Wire strippers Solder Soldering Iron Heatshrink Lighter
Interested in how-to. So this mod with pro-long the life of the fuel pump? Why didn't DCX not have it right the first time....? Lower gas mileage after mod?
cause theres alot of wire going throw the car for the pump and its a smaller gauge tell u the truth its a mess on what they did and it should since the pump is getting the proper voltage
Will try to have the How-To posted tomorrow. I forgot to mention Wire Loom and Zipties in the parts list too. That's what I used to cover the wire from the alternator back to the relay where the fuel pump is located at.
Unfortunately I don't pay attention to the gas mileage I get. I just drive and when its getting low on gas... I fill up and keep on driving. I don't do much driving either as my job is only 7-15 minutes away from my house depending on what traffic lights I catch. I will tell you this though you will definately feel the difference after the re-wire. Feels great even with the A/C on. Better response, better feel, overall better performance. Its worth it!
The how-to is written... I'll have pics by the end of the day. http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8992
