Aright, on the way home tonight I decide to hammer on it a bit. I give it a run from about 25-120 going thru the gears myself with no problems. I turn around to run it again on the same stretch and leave it in drive. I hit it at around same speed, the car goes thru first and as soon as it shifts into second the RPMs shoot all the way up like the car is in nuetral and my check engine light comes on with the "chime of doom". F**k. Also, my car now has nonresponsive throttle, basically like it is in neutral. In the hopes that I don't have to push my car home (not far thankfully) I coast to the side of the road, turn it off and turn it back on. Good news is the tranny engages, but the check engine light is still on. OK, I go home and reset the car to stock with the diablo in anticipation of bringing it to the shop tomorrow, and now the check engine light is gone. Anyone have anything like this happen? Any thoughts?

sounds like you went in to limp mod. Do you have a custom tune? did the little lighting bold red icon pop up on your dash

I don't think it was limp mode, only because my car would not engage any gear at all. When I pulled over, I was could not move the car using the throttle, including reverse. No lightning bolt icon showed up and yes I have a custom CMR tune, but I have had it for a few months with no problems so far... Thanks for the prompt responses guys. Also I checked the code b4 it cleared and it was a "transmission code", but I forget the numbers.

I really don't think I bumped it, I had both hands on the wheel because I was hammering on it. Also, there was no downshift, it upshifted, the rpms dropped and then immediately shot up with no resistence, like neutral.

Hmmm, good to know. I guess I will keep an eye on it and put the custom tune back on and see if anything happens or if the light comes back on. Thanks for the advice all!

One more thing, did restoring my cars original backup with the diablo clear the code for the "malfunction light"? I ask because it stayed on for several starts and restarts and only disappeared after I did the backup....

there seems to be 4 types of limp. One is when it allows you to stay in 2nd or 3rd gear but your can't exceed @3,000 rpm, two you can put the car in neutral on the fly and restart it, three you have to put it in park and restart it, and then... Tranny failure!

Mine does that alot at the track. So much they threatened to throw me off . If my launch went into high rpm wheel spin it would short shift then blam! no tranny.Had to restart to get the car moving. As long as I could keep spin to a min., I was fine. Though the hotter the car the easier is dumped. So I went home and swaped out my tcm for my old TSB screwed one. A few days later, at a light, same thing anyway! I was using the 93 cai on pred at first, then a custom tune so do know how that figures in.

Yea, I used to get that... Scariest thing ever.

I bet you have raised shift points and a higher rev limiter in your CMR tune?

You need to lower the shift points and rev limiter.

Most likely (although I'm not sure about that). Also, many codes are persistant after the condition has been removed for some number of key/run cycles.
