The Road to hitting 838RWHP in my 300SRT 8 (Udluuz) and my experience with Dyno Steve of RDP Motorpsport

    Hello to all,

Where do I start? Well about a year ago I toasted my stock short block trying to better my previous best of 11.51 @ 122 at Sacramento Raceway October 13, 2006. While I was trying to warm up the tires to stage, I remember the engine sputter and saw nothing but smoke in the rear view mirror. I knew then the motor was toast. The track official pointed at the bleach box and said if those orange metal pieces where mine. Knowing the 6.1 block is painted orange I looked at him and said “Yep, that’s part of my engine block.†I threw a rod that went right thru the passenger side of the block and oil pan. What a sight! Before the tragic day, I had a new combination that I wanted to try out. My Novi 1500 with dual stage nitrous, 75 shot first stage and 100 second stage. In January of 2007 the car had Dyno’d at 690RWHP with only the 2nd stage working. I knew that this combo was capable of over 700RWHP plus if I had all the stages working. I also knew I was pushing the limits of the stock block. Toasting the motor while I was doing a burnout was not how I wanted to go down!

In a Coma for a year

Well after tearing the motor apart and seeing the damage. I placed a call to my engine builder Kenny Duttweiler up in Saticoy California. Kenny had built my 408 Stoker turbo motor for my 1990 pro mustang. Kenny has a reputation of building the best motors for turbo or supercharged applications. He is known for having one of the fastest V6 Buick Grand National in the world. Some of you may remember seeing Kenny’s car on the Jay Leno show were Leno used Kenny’s Grand National to do a burnout contest against Tim Allen and Steve Saleens mustang. With a notable reputation Kenny is busy all year long. It took him close to a year to build my motor. The combo he built me was a 419.5 stroker motor using Chevy internals. Since then I have not been able to keep up on the latest news on the forums. I was also too busy running my new business, a mixed martial arts facility in Pleasanton California, Victory In Performance Mixed Martial Arts (www.vipmma.net).

When I got word that my motor should be completed in July 2008 I had to get my self updated on the latest news for the SRT8. Ron (NorcalSRT8) and Ron (1bad4dr) gave me all the latest updates. Thank you. I can’t believe how much has changed in a year’s time. I felt like I’ve been in a coma for a year and just woke up! I could not believe how fast everyone is going and finally there is tuning for our cars with the Diablo Predator. Major congrats to Jmatt and Chad for breaking into the 10’s and everyone close to that number. My goal of hitting the 10’s with our sleds came true when you guys broke that record, again major props to you guys. I also want to give thanks to Joshua at High Horse Performance for keeping me updated as well as introducing me to Dyno Steve of RDP Motorsport, and getting me the necessary parts to get my car running. Joshua has one of the best customer services around and I commend him for such great service. Also to Ted at Mopar Super Center for the new 6.1 block and other necessary info and parts needed for my build.

My experience with Dyno Steve of RDP Motorsport

When I finally got the motor in I had a hard time keeping the motor to idle. When I finally got the Predator from Joshua I was able to raise the idle to max 400+ across the board which got the car to idle without dying. As soon as I put it in reverse or in drive, the car died. At this point I am thinking that Duttweiler put a too radical of a cam since I was also getting an engine code of P0300 multiple misfire. From reading on the forums and the recommendation from Joshua and Ron (1bad4dr) about Dyno Steve, I decided to give him a try. Since I absolutely know nothing about the Diablo Predator and still do, I wanted the best person for the most important part of the puzzle, TUNING. Driving 7-8 hours towing my car from Northern California Bay Area to Southern California in Irvine, I did not know what to expect. All I wanted was to get my car to run and produce some decent dyno numbers. All I can say about Steve is, WOW! This guy is the man. Anyone who is thinking of turning your LX into a beast, he’s the man to see. Aside from the problems from the tranny, every time my car got on the dyno the car made horse power. When the car made 751RWHP with a 75 shot of nitrous I was fine with that and ready to pack up and go. Steve on the other hand wanted to go more!?!! I thought to myself some tuners would be conservative and stop and tell you that’s a lot of horsepower but this aussie wants to go more? He’s crazy! But when he showed me all the vital signs were ok I decided what the hell let’s do it. Since the 2nd stage did not work we up jet the first stage to 100 shot. The car ran 801RWHP we then went to 150 shot and the car went 838RWHP. Steve notice that the tranny was not keeping up, finally a reason to quit! Steve really knows his stuff and the boundaries of our cars. With the 2nd stage he believes we will hit another record mark. I believe this as well but if I cannot put all this power to the ground and reading stories of the tranny not keeping up, this will have to be on hold. Thanks to Ron NorcalSRT8 for the 1000HP axles which I still have yet to put in. I still have lots to do before I hit the track. I can’t say enough about Dyno Steve at RDP he is truly the man for our LX cars. The monies I spent for the custom CMR tune is expensive, was it worth it? Hell yeah every penny, and Dyno Steve at RDP Motorsport, YOU THE MAN!

Also, for those of you who plan on building a radical motor go see Kenny Duttweiler at Duttweiler Performance in Saticoy California. His estimates on what HP my car would make were right on the money. This man truly knows his stuff to make the winning combination.

    Thanks,

    Anthony Morales aka Udluuz

Great write up Anthony! I am just glad to see you back in the game my friend. Since day one you have been setting the bar high for performance in the LX community, and after taking a year off, you have done it once again. Big congrats bro! Can't wait to see that monster of yours lay down some numbers at the track.

Welcome aboard Anthony! Man, I remember first seeing your vids in 2006 and thinking, "Wow, that guy and his car are awesome" because you were doing things to these 2 ton bricks before many even knew about them. I still remember watching the video with the song "Crazy" playing in the background. Congrats on the new MMA school as well. I'm a huge MMA fan and trained for years before my shoulder gave out. I also got Steve to tune my car and have had 2 other CMR tunes....neither hold up to his. I hope you continue to keep us updated on the Connection when you get the time. Watching the fights tonight? I'm thinking Huerta is a great fighter but better knock out Florian quick otherwise his defense suffers.

Hemisfear Thanks for the compliments. My shoulder has gone out as well and had surgery on my left shoulder. Yes, Steve is the man when it comes to tunes. I think you were right on the money on Huerta, heard Florian got the decision

JMatt no problem. Yes, as soon as I get time to get the axles in and hopefully a tranny upgrade, i'll be off to the track.

Hey Thanks for the tip on the tranny. I think I saw a thread were you had a aftermarket tranny cooler, did this help any? Any info is greatly appreciated

Anthony.. saw your car last week at AMS when you guys first started to put the tune to it.. looks like you were there for quite some time.. glad it all worked out.. interesting why your builder used Chevy internal and would like to learn more as why he selected that route.. are you still running the Novi?? I could not tell from your post.. but as you say lets see if the tranny can handle the motor and tires can hook up.. if so look out....

Long time no see Anthony. Haven't talked to you since before Spring Fest 07.

I figured I would be the 1st one knocking down those kind of numbers.

My car did 512 NA. Looks like we will be doing some N2O pulls tomorrow or later today.

    Just a 150 shot.

So you moved down to the east bay. I do some work in Oakand, Fremont, Marina, and Dublin.

We need to hook up and catch up.
