Well after waiting 5 weeks because of a back order on the steering rack it is now in the car. I have to say that its a very big difference. There is no shake, wiggle, or shimmy in the front end at all. I just could not believe that it really was a steering rack that was causing the very and I mean very small vibration that was driving me crazy. After tires, balancing and tie rods. I am glad to say that I am very lucky to have a very good dealership on my side willing to deal with issues even if the are small and not really that big of a deal like a little vibration. Guys I was lucky that when the dealership saw that there was such a big back order they knew there where bigger problems that were going on with the front end vibrations on our cars.
Have to bookmark this thread since I have the same issue at higher speeds and I'm sure the dealer won't fix it on the first try lol. Thanks for the info Claude!
Man I was going crazy lucky I try to have the dealer do all my mods lol. First they put on new tires, then the balanced 4 times, rotated and balanced again, changed all the rotors twice and did both tie rods. And they could drive the car and feel the slight vibration. Finaly the did the rack and the vibration is gone. As the service manager said to me there could only be 2 reasons that the rack was on back order one chrysler ran out of money, yea right lol. Or they are changing racks like crazy because there is a big problem out there. What more can I say?
Well, of there's a widespread issue, I certainly hope they've addressed and corrected the problem and not just replaced it with a new one that is bound to fail sooner or later.
Mine shimmy occurs at speeds in excess of 60mph. I have a feelin' the dealer is going to say something like, we can't test things at those speeds and fall outside of our warranty procedures....at which point I pimp slap him lol.
Well I would let him know that your car unlike his is a SRT8 made for high speeds and then show him the adverstisment on the car. Its sad that there are some dealership service departments that would say that. They make money everytime they work on your car from Dodge so what would they care to change parts. It took me 4 dealerships to find one that was fair and helpfull. Good luck but your shimmey is what I had and no matter what they change and replace if they dont do the rack you will always have it. My mechanic found a small play in it after the balancing of tires several times and then the changing of the tie rods.
