Mine started doing it again. Seems to happen sooner or later to all our cars. If I could just see the piece, I could pull it out. Dealer supposedly fixed it once, but obviously, they just come loose again.
You can just leave it down there. But just so you don't get off that easily think about this: YOU will know that you have messy debris laying down in there somewhere. And you should probably add this to your phone book size list of things to worry about -- that seal was probably put there for a reason right? maybe you don't have the designed max cooling capacity any more due to some of the airflow leaking from the intended path? :shok::beerchug::rofl:
There's plenty of us that removed this plastic seal(s) around the fan shroud and never replaced it while still not having any cooling issues. I had to pull the passenger side seal out a couple of months ago when it came loose after it got wedged into the shroud area. The only time I heard the fan hitting the plastic seal was when the high-speed fan kicked on. I was able to get to it with a pair of needle-nose pliers and pull it out. I'm sure the dealer would replace it if I took it in, but I don't see the real need at this point in time.
Shhhhhh... Momo needs things to worry about. (we might still be able to save this) You haven't tried the full throttle run across the desert have you?
Steve, I agree, but I can't see the piece to pull it out. When my dealer "fixed" it last September, he said he put retaining clips in. THe reason I noticed it because I was at a show yesterday, and I started my car, and someone else noticed. I said, "yep, I know just what it is..". Mine makes noise even with just the low speed fan, that is a real racket when the high speed fan quicks in. So, either one or both the seals have slipped out of position. I would just leave it, but it makes a bit of a racket. Steve, were you able to see it with a flashlight?
It took me awhile to notice it since I didn't know exactly what I was looking for, but I did finally see the end of the plastic seal with the flashlight poking out between the fanshroud. I was able to get to it from the top of the engine bay with a set of needlenose pliers and just pull it out. Funny thing about this is that I just got my car back from the dealer...they just replaced the low speed fan motor and fan itself.
No Desert runs for me so far...that might be enough to cause cooling issues with the plastic seals removed!LOL
Thanks Steve. I made an appointment with the dealer for Wednesday, just to be on the safe side. My luck, the fans won't make any noise when I get it there.
Dealer called - they're going to replace the fans. None in stock, should have them tomorrow. No biggie, I wasn't using the car this week anyway. I feel better knowing the fans are being replaced.
