Just thought I would post my thoughts and experiences on this. While I have only had my car up and running w/ the Vortech for a few days and I am still running the Vortech (super rich) Canned tune, I have gained an avg of 1-2 MPG in my daily drive which is an all stop and go 30-60 MPH commute. Pre-Supercharger I was averaging 14-15 MPG in city Driving, if I really tried I could avg 15.5. Since the install I have been averaging 16-17 MPG driving the same route. Most people assume that when you add forced induction you will automatically lower your mileage due to more power, larger injectors etc etc. However, because you are making more power it takes less effort to get to speed or to maintain the same speed when compared to a stock engine. On our Mustang Supercharger kits where we include our own BMCP Tune customers have been gaining significant MPG as well as power. This seems to be the case so for on the Hemi as well, even with the stock Vortech Tune. I am by no means suggesting a S/C as a fuel mileage mod or saying that this will always be the case, highly modified cars like Lisa's stang certainly don't get awesome mileage. However, for most stock/bolt on type vehicles that add forced induction a mileage increase of some sort is just icing on the cake to me! How are you other Vorteched cars doing with mileage?
On my horrible ride home from vortech in stop and go traffic for 5 hours i got 20.5...my normal day to day driving i went from 15.2 to about 16.5 right now...
That's the way God intended it right there! More power, more economy ... a killer Vortech whistle. Many people get a blower and stop on the car and wonder why the mileage goes down. It's fun to enjoy the new power, but the truth is, if you drive the same way before and after adding a centrifugal supercharger, your mileage will go up as you are using less throttle to achieve the same acceleration. We recently had a customer put on our own Hurricane Cat5 supercharger kit and he got a 200 rwhp increase and 2 mpg increase. If you put the right components together with the right tune, the results are amazing. It's impressive that the stock Vortech kit with semi-canned Diablo tuned has gained 1-2 mpg since it's runs super rich to ensure safety with the air/fuel ratio. With a custom tune, I am sure we will see the power go up significantly and the mileage improve more as well. I'm curious to hear everyone else's experience with the mileage and driving habits that changed or stayed the same. Lisa.
yeah, it def depends on your tune. i lost about 8-10 mpg with all my cent SCed vehicles. your car is def running a mpg minded tune. of course these were lt1s and ls1s and not hemis.
This gain also holds true for the Viper motors...I picked up over 1 MPG after going FI....Roe claimed that the better mileage was due to better flow of his intake....the stock intake is replaced with the Roe kit..
Update...my mileage rocks! Normally I go through a tank in a week of driving to and from work, I filled up on Tuesday, and still have almost 3/4 of a tank left! Normally I would have half a tank or less at this point!
