I started to a little today...

I went to fill up the tank and a prius pulled up along side. Not to fill the tank mind you, but to wipe down the windows and mirrors. :getlost:

Seriously, this was bumming me out considering I'd just paid $50 for half a tank. Anyway, I shook this off by the time I spotted the PG&E 100 MPG Prius on the way to Modesto. Ordinarily I'd be mildly annoyed, but this time I was downright peeved. You wanna know why it gets 100 MPG? No, not because it a car you can plug in. No, I'm guessing its because its on a trailer being towed by a tractor trailer/big rig. And not like a little trailer, no a full length, big honking trailer, for one itty bitty car.

Not long after this encounter, I was buzzed by another Prius, windows down, doing 80+ (I was doing mid-70s, pardon me). Part of the design features of the Prius not only serve to make it hideous to people like me, but also, are supposed to make it more aerodynamic and thus more fuel-efficient. Rolling down the windows pretty much negates these benefits. Also, doing 80+, you're not getting much use out of the hybrid part of the hybrid car. Idiot... :chair:

So yeah, anytime I start to feel like an ass for driving a gas guzzling polluting death machine, I think of this stuff. And I don't feel so bad.

I NEVER feel guilty and neither should you Tam, nor anyone else here (you already kinda mentioned why). All that greenie crap goes out the window in the "real" world. Sure the Prius gets better mileage than a Hummer WHEN TESTED IN EQUAL SITUATIONS. Mph, total miles, etc. Take that Prius doing 90, how much less gas is it using than a Hummer going 60?

Or better yet let's look at a bigger picture. We have friends that have a Prius, they drive it a couple hundred miles a week. In a month, maybe 800-1000. My Magnum I'm driving maybe 50 (I know, kinda embarrassed by that, lol). SO tell me who's using more gas and polluting the environment more!! THEY ARE, I'M NOT!! A Hummer sitting in the driveway that gets driven once a week doesn't polute the environment nearly as much as a Prius getting driven 80 mph 200 miles a week!! DON'T FEEL GUILTY EVER!!!

Who cares about gas mileage...I didn't buy my car for that, I bought it because it has 4 doors and hauls ASS!!!! If my car got 30+ MPG that would be great, but that ain't gonna happen.

I agree with Paxton! Certainly didn't by the SRT's for the gas mileage!

I can not imagine those who have the Hybrid cars have nearly as much fun driving as we all do!!!

Thanx Figs, and call me Scott bro! I thought I knew most of the staff here but I guess not ... nice to meet you!!

All this green crap just needs some perspective in my book. Sure car emissions are bad for the environment but autos only contribute 20% of worldwide CO2 emissions, how many people realize that?? Yet the greenies keep pushing!! Our cars are so clean now they barely polute anything but they still don't care, they're squeezing an empty sponge the idiots!! What about all the factories belching crap into the sky unfiltered??

What I'd really like to know about all these hybrids is this ... what are they gonna do with the MILLIONS of dead, useless ENVIRONMENTALLY UNFRIENDLY batteries from all these cars 20 years from now huh?? Dead batteries are one of the worst things there is for the environment, how many people know that?!?! Yea, yet ANOTHER green problem no one's talking about, all they want is to axe the car. BS I SAY!!!! It's all political bs anyway.

Well put brudda, couldn't have said it better myself!!

Hey...if I could afford another car while keeping the SRT8 I'd get something that got decent mileage, but I'd never get a Yaris or Prius though. They both look like your ASS!!!!!!!!:thongue2:

If I owned a prius it wouldnt have to get better mileage to save gas...I would drive it 80% less than I drive now....it would just be for transportation...no other reason to even start it..:crying:

The entire state of California is on fire.(well, almost). If the carbon emissions burning a cord of wood is eqivalent to 2 million miles driven in a modern automobile, how much stinking carbon is going in the air RIGHT NOW, and.... who can we sue??? Now back to our regularly scheduled program. :usflag:

The PRICE of fuel is one thing (also electricity isn't exactly free). But WHERE does the electricity come from? Oil and coal burning power plants. Why? Because it's those same fanatics that have blocked the building of nuclear power plants. So if you want to talk "green" then converting the oil and coal burning power plants to nuclear would make all the pollution by all the cars a drop in the bucket by comparison. Not to mention how much more efficient nuclear is. So cheaper? maybe. 100 mpg sure. Just don't forget to add in the cost of the electricity and the pollution of producing it. Oh yea, and the cost difference between the electric car and the equivalent gas car.

Thanks for bringing that up Dave, I forgot to mention that in my rant. I read some study somewhere recently (sorry, can't remember where at the moment) and it was on the cost of building a car to the environment. They worked it out in dollars per mile. This is TOTAL cost, from design and enginering (computer work) to building the actual car. Prius ... $3.25/mile. Chevy Tahoe (yes, V-8) ... $2.85/mile. End of discussion. NO ONE FEEL GUILTY PLEASE!!

yes scotts points are valid....... but by definition, a compaison is two things doing the same thing in similar conditions....... yes, my srt that i drive 100 miles a week is using less gas then a prius going 1000 miles..... but for an apples to apples comparison we must compare both subjects under the same conditions......

look at it this way, if an srt uses X amount of gas and puts out Y amount of pollutants in 100 miles.....

a prius (or some other greenminded pos) puts out 1/2 of x and 1/2 of y in the same 100 miles.....which one is better???

drive the prius twice as much and they are the same, but you are getting twice the usage!!! make sense????

either way, i feel ZERO friggin guilt for driving my srt!!!!!!! nor do i feel any guilt when i blow by these little friggin tree hugger cars at wot!!!! dahahahahaha

btw - it does suck to pay 75 bucks to fill up though!!!!! hehehehehee

Totally agree Chris, fair is fair BUT in the real world that's a rare event, no two people are the same. I'm just saying in Tam's case where she pulled into the gas station to fill up maybe feeling a little guilty looking at the Prius ... who's to say that Prius hadn't filled up 10 times that week already and that was Tam's first?? That's all I'm saying.
