Preorder your Dodge Challenger Package Car
This is only a nonrefundable deposit on the new Drag Race Challenger Package Car from Mopar.

    Preorder Deposit Details:
This is a nonrefundable deposit for the Dodge Challenger package car that will be unveiled on July 13th at Bandimere Speedway. Once the vehicle details are released by Mopar, your order will be followed up with the available options and then the order will be placed with Mopar at which time the deposit will be charged. Once the order is placed, the deposit will not be refundable for any reason other than Mopar canceling the order. If Mopar cancels the order, we will refund all charges that have been placed completely.

    Available Options:
The available options are not yet known, but we have a feeling that 3 different cars are going to be offered. We believe they will be offered with either a 5.7L Hemi, 6.1L Hemi, or the 392 Hemi, so in order to help speed up the ordering process we have made these three selections available. If you place an order for one of these units and Mopar does not offer it, we will contact you as soon as possible to confirm any change to what options are available. We are not sure on color choices so we are not offering the different colors, however if Mopar releases different colors we will contact you before placing the order with Mopar as well as any other options that may be offered.

    Official Information released:

    * Bandimere Speedway will host the debut of the Dodge Challenger Drag Race Package Car at the 29th Annual Mopar® Mile-High Nationals on Sunday, July 13
    * The Drag Race Package Car by Mopar, race-prepped and based on the Challenger SRT8®, is designed to thrill a new generation of drag-racing enthusiasts
    * This is the first drag-race-only, factory-built package car built in 40 years

Based on the Challenger SRT8®, Mopar’s modern, factory-prepped Challenger Drag Race Package Car will begin with a special Body-in-White (BIW) from Chrysler’s Brampton, Ontario, Canada assembly plant. It has been updated for modern racing conditions. Special weight-reduction modifications were made by eliminating unnecessary components and systems. To accentuate the weight savings, it will also feature added composite, polycarbonate and lightweight components designed for drag racing. The engine was repositioned and the wheelbase was shortened to improve the driveline angle/clearance and weight distribution.

“Mopar worked with the NHRA—the world’s largest and loudest auto racing organization—to approve our race-prepped Challenger for drag race competition,†said Sunil Lahoti, Senior Manager - Mopar Marketing and Brand Strategy, Chrysler LLC. “Engineered to race, our Package Car has what an NHRA drag racer needs to thunder down the strip in competition. It’s made for straight-line, drag-strip acceleration—and is prepped to score victories off the Tree.â€

Drag racers will have a choice of three engines to power the Challenger Drag Race Package Car for race competition. Mopar will build a minimum of 100 Package Cars to meet NHRA requirements. Each will carry an identification plate with sequential serial number.

Mopar built the first two Challenger Drag Race Package Cars for development and testing. Each Package Car ran successfully in June as proof-of-concept and for NHRA certification.

At the Mile-High reveal, Mopar will announce details including vehicle modifications, engine options, NHRA/IHRA categories and class eligibility, pricing, availability and distribution. A build book/owner’s manual will be available as well as a collector’s “coffee table†book.

New Dodge Challenger Drag Race Package Car Program by Mopar
The first drag-race, factory-prepped package cars built in 40 years, the new Challenger Drag Race Package Car by Mopar builds on the heritage of the limited-edition 1968 HEMI®-powered Package Cars. Those '68 Dodge Darts and Plymouth Barracudas solidified the Mopar brand as a quarter-mile force.

Mopar will build a minimum of 100 Challenger Drag Race Package Cars to meet NHRA requirements. Based on the production Dodge Challenger SRT8, Mopar’s modern factory-prepped Challenger Drag Race Package Car will begin as a special Body-in-White (BIW) from Chrysler’s Brampton, Ontario, Canada, assembly plant. The body sealer, sound deadener and undercoat will be eliminated. To reduce vehicle weight, major production component and systems will also be eliminated including: windshield wiper assembly, complete HVAC system, all airbag components, rear seats, power steering system, exhaust system and underbody heat shields, cross-car and side impact door beams, rear bumper beam and rear deck lid spoiler.

The drag racer has three engine options—6.1-liter or 5.7-liter HEMI or 5.9-liter Magnum® Wedge—as well as manual or automatic transmission.

A build book/owner’s manual will be provided to document the modifications made to the Challenger SRT8 as well as provide recommendations to finish the Package Car for Stock Eliminator competition. To accentuate weight savings, there are unique drag-race components in the Package Car program including: composite lift-off hood with functional scoop, Viper-style front seats, polycarbonate door windows, lightweight cooling module with electric fan, manual rack and pinion steering, special cable-operated deck lid release, special lightweight front brake assembly and special cable-operated throttle linkage and pedal assembly.

The Challenger Drag Race Package Car will be eligible to run in three Eliminator categories—Comp, Super Stock and Stock—and potentially 40 classes.

Depending upon the configuration selected, the U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the Challenger Drag Race Package Car program will range from the low to mid $30s. Each car will carry an identification plate with sequential serial number.

The Challenger Drag Race Package Car will be available for order in late August to early September. A toll-free number will be designated for ordering. Details will be posted on www.mopar.com.

The part numbers for the car and the components have not yet been released as well as the ordering process. Since this is not available to us yet, we have deactivated our preorder system until further notice. Once we have a full list of details and ordering information, we will post this information.

Okay, so did anyone else watch the Mile High Nationals yesterday for the very brief apperance of the Challangers?

I thought about going up just to see the cars and get the final list of introduction details promised but decided to forgo the $47 ticket and just watch on ESPN.

Kind of disappointed because they staged one quick demonstration race between Don Gartlets (sp?) and Judy Lilly (a local drag race legend about the same age). They wouldn't announce the times turned in but Judy won the burnout and I think I caught a very brief glance of the finish board and it looked like Don won the race with a run in the low 13's at 122mph. Remember, however, that this was being run at a track with a temp of 120+ degrees, 5800 ft. elevation and they said this would equate to an elevation of over 8000 ft. or a loss of 27% power.

So any on site spotters get better information?

They ran in the low 11's. Adjusted times would be in the low 10's.

I want to know what fuel delivery options exist (injection/carb?) and what transmission mount options exist.

Not merely auto/manual, but what auto? Can I fit a powerglide on the back?

I obviously already know what the block can handle. A nice 525HP 392 with another 200 shot of nitrous, running through a good Powerglide or TH400 would be nice, especially running back to a Ford 9".

The suspension needs to be changed.

The car already weighs 1000 pounds less than a street version.

No - they are not, and never will be, street legal.

At best, they serve as a roadmap for turning one of our daily drivers into a real drag car in the future.
