So I have an 05, and I finally experienced the joy of killing the 3/4 shift fork, shift selector, and/or synchro. I haven't had it broken down yet, I'm still pricing out and planning out the rebuild parts, but anyone got some advice on it?

I'm planning to have it rebuild by a shop here in Austin called Monarch, they've quoted me about $1000 for the labor, and I plan to get a CM FX600 clutch, Performance Autowerks billet shift selector, hardened 3/4 synchro clip, and billet shift fork, as well as a new 3/4 synchro (if that is indeed needed).

Anyone had their 05 (or any model year tranny) go out on them like this? What happened is I shifted into 3rd, moderately hard, not WOT or anything (but I do WOT shift when I race), and the tranny got stuck in 3rd. The shifter will move from 3rd to N to 4th, but no other gates, and no matter what position it is in, the clutch is always engaged and in 3rd. I burnt up the clutch trying to limp home in 3rd ;).

its most likely your shift selector, its prob not necessary to rebuild the entire tranny. the shift selector can be changed out in 2-3 hours.

I'd check this first before going for a full on trans rebuild.

How did your clutch get involved in this? I can understand burning it up starting out in 3rd. What was the "always engaged" part?

this just happened to me too. i burnt my clutch up also. you wont need a new tranny more then likely. just replace the shift selctor and fork. also the clutch since the tranny will be open....as far as the pewerks tranny goes. its a waste of money really imop. i know plenty of guys that are pushing 400+ with a stock tranny. if they do tell you your tranny needs a rebuild i will suggest forward motion. they are the cheapest trannies i have found. i was just gonna replace mine but when i opened it up i found i didnt need to. here is a link to FM for the tranny
    http://www.forwardmotioninc.com/html/catalog/page19.html
and just incase your to lazy to look (like me) here is the price list
    Drive Train Parts

    FM Rebuilt Transmissions
Fully rebuilt with new seals, races , bearings, synchronizers and pads.

    With Quaife LSD:
    $1,445.00 with exchange
    $2,045.00 outright

    Without Quaife LSD:
    $845.00 with exchange
    $1,445.00 outright
cant go wrong for the price. other thing i suggest is get on ebay and get a tranny a buddy of mine just got one for 800

By that I mean I could not take it out of 3rd gear, I could move the shifter into 3-N-4 gates, but the transmission stayed engaged in 3rd.

THAT would be fantastic news, however I know I was having grinding issues shifting into 3rd before all this, and it would pop out of 3rd if I did not rev match on down shifts, that sounds like a bad synchro, right?

we actually just rebuilt both our tranny's. my boyfriend's issue was similar to yours, the had the infamours 3rd gear grind/pop. he replaced the 3/4 synchro, 3rd gear, forks, various small parts (lock-out rings, etc), and had a clutch put in. it cost about $1100, including parts (not the clutch). if you're getting told 1k just for labor you're getting ripped off.

You had a shop do the full rebuild for $1100, including parts? The 3/4 synchro is about $280 alone, that's a pretty amazing price for the labor and including the gears, forks, and various parts. That would put labor around what, $500 for the full rebuild? Dodge quoted me $2200 for a rebuild, and another shop I talked to quoted me $2000 for a rebuild, this place is the only one that was anywhere near $1000.

    Here's my parts list:

    Pwerks billet shift selector $140
    Pwerks billet 3/4 fork $499
Pwerks hardened 3/4 synchro clip $15
    OEM 3/4 synchro $280
Clutchmasters twin disc street clutch FX600 $730 (bought a used one with 100 miles on it)

I'll compare the Pwerks Stage 1/2 and the FM trannies and see if it might be worthwhile to just have a shop swap one of those in for me, they quoted me $350 for a straight swap if I provide a tranny.

That's amazing, wow. I need to shop around some more I guess. Do you know about how many hours of labor a rebuild requires?

well it may not be a bad synchro. mine is an 05, after i broke the shift selector it started with the 3rd gear issues (grinding, popping out of gear) i thought i was going to have to rebuild but i found the issue to be a totally fubar'd throw out fork.

Yah, I guess I'll have to wait until it's all apart to decide what to buy, but for sure the billet shift selector, hardened 3/4 synchro clip, and billet 3/4 fork. I'll wait until the shop tells me what else is broken before ordering more parts.

not off hand, no. his car was in for about four days, but that was because some parts needed to be ordered. if he had the parts it would have been only 2 days or so.
