i basically copy and pasted a few of your responses to him in a PM....he sent me another PM today saying the following.... and yes i told him to come here lol....if he does or not is up to him
this is one reason i stayed with the 2.75" pipes and not 3"....i dont know that it would make a huge difference but logic would say that even with a more free flowing system....the smaller pipes would assist with back pressure am i off in my thinking there?
well steve, i run 3" hi-flo cats&mid pipes, stock 2.75" x-pipe, 3" inlet/outlet magnaflow muffs with full 3" tubing after the muffs to the tips. yes, a SLIGHT drop in very low end grunt, but she screams when the tach climbs over 2k rpm!!!! woo-hoo!!!
i basically have the exact same setup as you only i have flowmasters instead of magnaflows hahahaha you dont have those big ugly resonators right?!?!
hell no!!! THE very first mod i did to the exhaust was to chop those phuggers out!!! the drone was brutal!!! soon after i replaced the suitcase....then the hi-flo's....then re-did the muffs and rear tubing to 3".......
haha everyone ask's me what an SRT sounds like stock....i just look at them blankly and im like i drove my car exactly 2.3 miles from the dealership to my exhaust shop before i had my flowmasters installed hahahahaha..... the HF's (just as milan promised) brought the sound to a niiiiiice level! when talking exhaust....i honestly dont give a crap about power #'s or gains blah blah blah....it just gotta sound good
i think the best thing i did was the addition of the hi-flos!!! just gave it a much meaner sound when wot!!!
I know I'm late to the thread, but I did notice a definite drop in low-end torque when I dumped the stock exhaust in favor of the Zoomers cat-back. While the stock set-up is quiet as hell (ticked off air conditioner), it does serve a purpose, performance wise.
I still say that the guys issues are stemming from the lack of back pressure. And I now have the BWoody true 3" exhaust. No cats, no x-pipe, Magnaflow muffler with built in x-pipe, no res. No problem. Maybe the muffler your friend added just does not create enough backpressure by itself?
the Super 44's are built to be free flowing.....heres the description from flowmaster... Super 44 - Two Chamber Mufflers Flowmaster’s NEW Super 44™ muffler with its 4” x 9.75” x 13” all black finish case offers distinct advantages over our original 40 Series™ muffler. Using the technology seen in our larger Super 40™ mufflers, the Super 44™ delivers a rich deep tone, an improved flow path radius, optimum internal flow and sound control, all created with Flowmaster’s Delta Flow® technology. It is the most aggressive, deepest sounding, highest performing four inch case street muffler we’ve ever built! (if that doesnt work let me know ill just past the text) and for those who dont know what the Delta Flow Technology is.... Developed from Flowmaster's line of Delta Force ® race mufflers, Delta Flow ® technology provides superior scavenging of exhaust gases even over a comparable (standard) Flowmaster muffler. By using multiple deflectors, vs. a single deflector, Delta Flow technology provides a cleaner faster scavenging path by eliminating the chance of turbulence commonly found behind a single deflector model. These Delta Flow deflectors can only function properly when they've been precisely placed and welded to exact specifications. By investing in state-of-the-art electronic sensing devices, Flowmaster can now produce mufflers with internal elements placed at tolerances of +/- .004", twice the standard required by OEM car manufacturers. In fact, no one in the exhaust business today has tighter specifications. If you've ever played a musical instrument or watched a piano tuner at work, you understand how slight the differences are between being in-tune and being out-of-tune. The results are increased horsepower, torque and fuel economy with reductions of exterior sound levels as well as a decrease of interior resonance inside the vehicle. Flowmaster, it's a "Sound Decision." Resonant Tuning Chamber Captures and cancels specific sound frequencies, reducing resonance inside the vehicle Power Chamber ® Creates a negative pressure that helps scavenge exhaust gases for increased horsepower, torque and fuel mileage Precision Construction Electronic sensing places components to a tolerance of +/- .004", the tightest specifications in the industry Low Pressure Balance Chamber blocks power-robbing atmospheric pressure from entering the system. Delta Flow Technology® Provides advanced noise cancellation by separating and recombining pulses at precise phase shifts I dont know if that answers your question big ron....but the delta flow i believe if im reading that right should prevent the huge lack in back pressure no?
man you snuck that post in on me! haha.... this is true....what i asked him was basically...if you took the stock "x pipe" out that he says it was not a real x pipe....what did you put in its place....maybe that will help in the quest to find the answer lol
Hey Guys, I just jumped over from lxforums thanks to StevoSRT asking me over. This is a great site! Anyway I am still running a full stock X-pipe which I think you know I posted is a fake. The one I cut apart for the picture is of another stock cat-back I had. I know some guys have said theres was open and that maybe an 06 is differant but that one was from an 06 and unless you look real hard and at both sides I to thought it was open. I am going to put a full stock cat-back on my car this week to see if the power comes back. I just don't know what else to try.
Does it feel like you lost power through the rpm range? only down low? only high? So what was the sequence of changes leading up to the loss of power? Was the stock pipe still in there?
It feels like it has lost power through the whole range but not as bad ontop. It really bogs down low almost feels like you have one foot on the brakes or a 3000lbs trailer intow. Everything was fine before I changed my cat-back.
I still believe you lost backpressure when you added the 44's. As for the x-pipe, mine is an 06 and when I deleted my entire exhaust, I looked at the x-pipe (both sides) and it was a true x-pipe. Have you checked for exhaust leaks? Could be a problem there. Wish I could give you more assistance, but you are the first to mention the loss of power (that I know of) when modifying the exhaust. Good luck. Oh yea, Welcome to the "C".
I have cut out the inside of the X-pipe that I pictured on LXForums and I am going to weld it inplace of the other factory X-pipe that I have on know which also not a true X but when I do that I have a complete stock Cat-back that I will put back on and see if my power come back.
first welcome to the C!!! you will find this place is THE place to be for srt owners!!! second, i have a very similar set up (magnaflow muffs instead) and did not experience any kind of power drop off. maybe a slight decrease in very low end torque, but not an overall drop. mine actually screams on the top end!! i also looked at my x-pipe when the exhaust was apart and it is a true x-pipe. wierd stuff you are dealing with no doubt. i will be interested to hear how the car perfroms after you re-install the stock system. be sure to come back on and let us know!!! good luck!
