first want to thank steve for his tune and so far pretty impressed with what i am seeing from my car. one glaring issue though that i am curious if anybody else has experienced with a new rdp tune. my car now has a very pronounced hesitation between gears, especially 1-2 , 2-3 when under wot conditions. it was really bad when i first loaded the tune and has gotten better (smoother/quicker) as i have put a couple of miles on the car. just curious if this is something the car is "learning". i did reset the tcm adaptives and raise the shift points as indicated by steve before installing the tune. just for info: stock 6.1 cai, cat back, hi flo cats, tune, 180 tstat. just install tune yesterday, "broke in" like steve said. only 30 miles on car so far.
Take it out an run the piss out of it Chris....seems to me that it took a while for my shifts on the former SRT8 to get crisp after the B&G flash (no tuner back then)...after a while it would easily bark the tires when shifting 1-2..:dancinlock:
Hopefully the car is still learning Chris. Steve drove my car with me in it after he tuned it and I never felt the hesitation your talking about under WOT so I'm not sure what your problem is. Drive it hard for awhile and see if it goes away, if not I'm sure Steve will chime in hear and help you out.
No hesitation here either Chris... Do like Larry stated. Go out and drive her like you stole her. It may clear up. I know I had to do several free spirited runs (per Steve's recommendation) to get the PCM to FORGET about the old tune and start learning the new tune. It really did help.
i am thinking you guys are probably right. i just went out and flogged the car for awhile and it defiantely pulls much harder from 2k and up. the throttle is as crisp as i have ever experienced in the car since buying it!!! still not perfect, but darn close! still seems to have that kind of dead feeling right from a dead stop or a VERY slow roll (under 5mph) but not as bad as past tunes. after beating the car for a few miles, the 2-3 shift is pretty much solid and firm with no issues, but the 1-2 shift is still an issue. the pause is not so bad, but it still pauses. although once it shifts, it hits 2nd HARD!!!! hahahahaahaha overall the car runs good and strong!!! steve knows his shit for sure!!!!!
Chris: I have essentially the same mods as you. I have that same flat spot that you describe. I never had it until I had my car tuned. My first tune was not done by Steve or RDP. I had mentioned to the first tuner about the little bog or flat spot in the low RPMs of 1st gear but nobody seemed concerned except me. That was the reason I went to RDP Steve. After his tune, I still think that I have the flat spot but it might not be quite as noticeable. I would like him to drive my car to see if he can feel it too. I did not have any problems with a shift hesitation after either tune. I feel that my car is much stronger and shifts more crisply (up and down) after Steve's tune and the track times agree. After Steve tuned my car, he took it out to test drive it. Unfortunately, it was in monsoon/thunderstorm/near tornado conditions. Yes, he scared the sh!t out of me on that drive. He said that he did not get to drive it like he wanted to because of the weather and said that I needed to do 3 WOT 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th shifts once it stopped raining. I spent the next two days at the track and the car ran great.
Sam, I let Steve drive my car too...but it was dry out. Straights were fine by me...twisties come along and and my pulse rose lol...fun stuff though.
I hear you. After it was all said and done it was fun. Friggin' raining so hard it was coming down sideways, in the most congested retail/commercial area of the city at 5:30, it was a rush. I heard he was a good tuner but I did not know anything about his driving skills. Scared the crap out of me until he explained his background. Then I was only scared sh!tless.
real funny traitor!!!!!! go get in your 6 and drive with your nose up!!! lol who loves ya curtis!!! hahahahaa exactly!!!!! the more i am driving the car, and the fact i reloaded the tune as steve told me to, the car is progressively getting better and better!!! shift hesitation is gone, shifts are getting firmer each wot, and the car just flat out wants to pull!!!! things are definately going in the right direction with the "learning" of the tune!!! lol
got that right!!!! hats off to you steve for being so easily accessible and willing to help out and follow up!!! like i have said before, outstanding customer service!!! for as busy a guy as you are, you still take the time to listen and help!!!
