Thanks for the Cliff Notes version in English Dave!!! LOL I'll give a couple of my old instructors a call and see what they have to say.
Howdy folks, I saw this thread and just had to jump in. I mostly hang out at the LXforums, I guess since I started with a Magnum RT. I now have a MSRT. I did my MAGFX Meat Mod on my RT in '05 and then had to do it on my SRT. I just had to run the widest tire that I could. I am running AXIS GT-R 20x9 and 20x10.5 wheels with 275/40 and 315/35 Toyo Proxes ST tires. I have a set of Vredersteins to be mounted in the near future. Here is a few pictures: From the rear with suspension compressed and no rear bumper. This is before and after the chassis clearance and yes, I modified the plastic wheel wells and also shortened the sway bar link, since it was touching inside of the wheel. I have KW II's and run the car pretty low. Due to a bit of negative camber, I have some Pedder's adjustable rear bushings to straighten them a bit and will roll the fenders. Right now I do not rub at all and actually just got back to AZ from the LX and Beyond Nationals that were held in Columbus, OH. It is a highway cruiser! And since I am sort of new here and haven't introduced myself, here is one for fun. Cheers...and my name is Jonn
I'm soooooooooo confused.................. What to do wider narrower? Maybe by a Mazda Miyta Spec for 10 K and zip around the track. Is their a therapist in the house?
John - YOU may have answered my prayers!!! LOL This is EXACTLY what I am looking for. I was wanting to keep the stock wheels and widen them but I'm really sure I could run those wheels and be happy!! The car looks incredible bud!
Thanks! I think that the wheelwell areas are the same between LX's, and definitely between the Mag and 300. If the Charger is different, I would think that it would only be at the outer fender area, if at all. What LX do you have, Bud?
first - welcome john!! it is a real treat to see you over here!!! for those of you not lucky enough to have laid eyes on johns car, it is a real beauty with a beastly attitude!!! one of the best burnouts i saw at the spring fest starting line!!! hahahahaha rick - those pics are the exact ones i was trying to find for you when you were talking about doing 315's. i forgot it was johns car!!! hahahahaa as i said before, to run a 315 on a lowered car there is more than just spacers and plastic cutting to be done. also keep in mind rick, johns wheels, although 10.5" wide, carry that width in a much less negitive fashion (ie, not all to the inside) than do mine and brads widened STOCK wheels. yes, a 315 "could" be made to fit, but it depends on how much you want to work to make it happen. for me, cutting the sheet metal was not on the adgenda. btw, for an old thread of mine, it sure has made a huge comeback!!!! hahahahaahaha
Chris, I have FINALLY found a set of wheels that I like....John's! I don't know if you saw what John said in between the pics he posted: "I have KW II's and run the car pretty low. Due to a bit of negative camber, I have some Pedder's adjustable rear bushings to straighten them a bit and will roll the fenders. Right now I do not rub at all and actually just got back to AZ from the LX and Beyond Nationals that were held in Columbus, OH. It is a highway cruiser!" "I modified the plastic wheel wells and also shortened the sway bar link, since it was touching inside of the wheel." I'm not sure if I'll be able to do all this for the next round of mods, but it's something I would like to do! Great thread comeback...BTW!!
rick - i am surprised you did not see johns car a spring fest. as for his comments, i saw them. he had to cut metal, plastic, and clearance the sway bar link to get his wheels to fit, and my point was that he did ALL that for a wheel that does not have the same inside width as mine. trust me, having tried to fit a few different size wheels under my car when i first got the widened wheels from brad, the 295 / 285 tires were the only things going to work at my ride hieght without SIGNIFICANT "tweaking" to the inner fender well structure!!! i could run a wider spacer, but that does not really float my boat much!!! lol
Thanks Chris, cool to have met you before and at the Spring Fest and it was an honor to be able to check your ride out. It is truly spectacular. Some more food for thought. Even with my sculptured (do you like that word? tehee) wheel well, it is a fairly tight fit. If one had to push the tire/wheel in any farther, the tire would hit the shock and the shock tower structure. Also, I am not sure if I could run the rear coil-overs that are out there for our cars. Also, I was pm'ing back and forth with X E Ryder over on LXForums about doing this to his car. He is a road race fanatic and researches his mods to the fullest. He wanted to widen the stock SRT wheels, as well, and run the 315’s. After a lot of conversations, he decided to hold off for now. His decision was based on the fact that even though the tires would work fine on normal spirited driving, he thought that under extreme cornering, the tread might move too much and rub either inside or out. I think that after I roll my fenders and straighten the camber, it might not be a problem. Someday, I should have a better idea on this. Bottom line: I still like my set-up…Jonn
Thanks John for THAT response in particular. I love road racing and don't want to give up any cornering on my ride. NOW.....go out there and really push some twisties and get back to me! LOL
Also, this might be related to the discussion. When I had my RT, I ran spacers on the front and wanted to go with a slightly longer stud. After a lot of researching, I found some that worked great. If someone wants them, I can try to find the part#.
