Hey I posted this over on that other forum...but no one seemed to notice...*shrug*

Anyways, a bunch of engineers from work organized a raceday over the weekend at Byron (IL). The results of which I posted below...

Good race day. We showed up about 10am, but Byron didn't have it's act together until about 10:30. All in all we had about 20-25 cars in our group. That was enough to get two of our own lanes in stagging. I was there from 10-2 and got 4 passes in. I could have done a lot more passes, but the DA was getting worse (more on that later) and times were consistent so I figure why push it?

As i mention above the weather suked for racing. +3300 DA But we still had some fast cars there.

My buddy with the TB SS showed up with a caravan of trucks... It felt like the Alamo out there. 1 Jeep vs ~8 TB SSs'. But I think I represented well.

Best run of the day for me was [email protected] I'll have to confirm with him, but I think that was the fastest truck of the day. All my other passes were very close (12.89, 12.86, 12.91). One of the TB SS guys I talked to said he has run 12.6's in +1000 DA, but could only muster a 13.1 on Sunday. So hearing that and seeing my results I felt pretty good. My original goal with this vehicle was; daily driver, pump gas, running 12.9's on the hottest day, no FI or NOS, build for reliability, and year round driveability. With Sunday's runs i've accomplished all my goals. Just as long as she'll last another 60-80,000 miles with no major hard parts breaking, I'll be happy.

Anyways, I haven't converted the run yet, but here is the break down of the timeslip (i'll try to scan it later):

    60 - 1.76
    1/8 - 8.19
    mph - 85.1
    1/4 - 12.83
    mph - 106.7

I'm pretty much at the end of this build. My buddy John with his TB SS is just starting to tap his potential. He was about .1 off my quickest time and about 2 mph off my fastest time. For a stock long block TB SS that's DAMN impressive!! If I can get some tuning software into his hands (looking at Blown7) I think i'd pick up some MPH and ET too.

Anyways, like I said good times. I'm sure we'll go back out later in the year. With the colder weather should be nippin' low 12's (uncorrected of course).

I'll post the next time we go out. Hopefully we can get more than just the one truck...

    Later
    J-

    WOW, you represented nicely. lol

The ultimate goal is to ensure you had a great time. Sounds like you did.

Your Jeep is running very sound, and with times like that, with crappy air, you should be extremely happy with the performance of your Jeep.

Alamo. lol That is funny. Like the movie, 1 guy took down 8. hehe One up for the good guy. hehe

Thanks, i was pretty happy with my results. I put the combo together myself, and was worried the cam was the wrong choice, but the numbers show otherwise.

Forgot to mention i did a couple 60-140 MPH runs on the way home. I was racing my buddy with the quick TB SS. When we both jumped at the same time, we'd be even up till about 90, then I'd pull slightly till about 120-130 and he'd start coming back at a good clip. Pretty crazy how dead even we are.

You'd need xray telescopic vision to see what have in my Jeep.

    Current combo is:
    Stock shortblock with ~30,000 miles
    FRI Patriot cam
Indy Cyl heads (with upgraded valvetrain goodies)
    Custom CAI
    Kooks 1-7/8 Swaintech heads/cats
    Magnaflow catback
Custom tune by FLP in Naperville (still waiting on Blown7 and "UV" to come through here!!)

A handful of other "free" mods and go-fast parts.

Not trying to set any records here. I've tried playing that game before in the past, and it's costly... just wanted something I can run at the track and not have to worry about anything breaking. Also didn't want to break the bank. Currently i have less than 4K in mods including some labor that i couldn't do myself (time=money).

Like I said, i'm pretty happy so far. Now if I can get the thing to average 80 MPG i'd keep it forever.

Yeah +3300 DA was making for some slow cars that day. Like I said there was another TB SS that ran 12.6's on +1000 DA but he could only get a 13.1 on Saturday. It was driving him nuts. He was looking at his calibration, data logs, trying to figure out if there was something wrong. Just bad weather....

I felt real bad for the guy with the Supercharged TB SS. He was running 13.2-13.4's all day....

We'll go back on a colder day. Hope to get some better weather.

    Thanks Patrick,

I honestly think your results are much more impressive. For a Cam/tune you're running real strong.

I was trying to get another Jeep out there to run with me. Needed someone to compare to. Maybe next time...

Yup. FI and NOS bring their own atmosphere. Best bang for the buck out there. Your truck is proof of that Cobra.

    But...

To much to worry about for my taste. I'd be worried about bottle pressure, or running lean, or gapping plugs, or etc... I'm happy just showing up to the track with a half tank of gas and a helmet. Nothing to think about other than staging. :)

I did think about a really small shot of NOS just to cool the incoming air, but went back to KISS...
