I heard they were moving 10% of the workforce..not completely shutting down everything in the US or PA...not saying 10% is acceptable but you know.
I know we all dont like to hear about jobs going overseas and try to buy American when possible ( I have never owned a foreign car in my life), however we are all at fault to an extent...lets face it we all want to be paid a fair wage for what we do, but at the same time we want to pay as little as possible for the products we buy. Unfortunatley, the second usually wins out and companies end up outsourcing more and more to compete not just in the US market but globally. Again, not saying I agree but it is becoming a fact of life, and either Americans need to understand they are going to pay more for American goods or continue to see more US companies move overseas to compete w the products Americans are buying that are coming from overseas. As Scott said BT is an example, many companies sell the same product for lower prices by manufacturing overseas vs in the US. Some people buy based on price alone and there you have it.

unfortunatly scott this is the way of the global economy we currently live in........ my own field is threatened in ways never thought of before. with the advent of digital scanning techniques to get models of patients limbs, the files can now be modified on a screen instead of with plaster and human hands...... what does this mean for me??? a clinician can now emial there files to some other friggin country to have some poorly paid slave laborer make something for dirt cheap!!!!

ahhh yes, been to a few of those when i lived in stockton!!! chocolate week in oakdale and the garlic festival in stockton!!!

i very much agree with this statement.... sad part is rick, we will not be around to see it, but our kids might......

sooooo true!!!!! lived near frankfurt as a kid and hands down the best chocolate anywhere!!!

180 million can mean the difference between making market growth projections, same store growth, etc.,etc..... it is all a numbers game nowadays in corporate america...... sad but oh so very true....

The issue is America is no longer a Manufacturing Economy anymore..the costs are too high in comparison to overseas..we are moving toward a service ecomony. Like it or not that is the way the world is going. Adapt or perish.

One of the biggest things killing our domestic automotive sector is UNFAIR trade. I mean WTF!?!?! Canada and the US are thinking of now expanding free trade to South Korea yet for many of these countries, we can't sell our cars to the same extent over there. Toyota & Honda have inundated Canadian metropolitan cities such as Toronto. When I go there on business, I see more imports than domestics. It kind of sickens me being raised in a Big 3 town and a a Big 3 family. Even senior citizens are driving Japanese...which I find even more perplexing since I'd think their loyalties would lie with tradition and faith in a North American product. What should be done from now and into the future is to have FAIR trade agreements. I for one, would not be against seeing a 10,000 dollar tariff imposed on any Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, etc...I know this isn't practical since all our tvs, computers, many car parts and everything else is made elsewhere...but to save the domestic automotive market, something specific like that needs to be done.

I do have one positive story lol..

When we were at PRI last week we were invited to attend the NMCA and NMRA (drag racing series) annual awards Banquets. Edelbrock is the series sponsor for NMCA. Vic Edelbrock got up and gave a nice speech about the industry and competition. He said they just finished a huge foundry and manufacturing plant in California to make sure all their parts stay made in America. That is awesome. But even a big established name like Edelbrock is feeling the pinch from overseas manufacturing.

Man, interesting conversation here. Since I'm studying a lot of this in school its intriguing to see the many different opinions and attitudes here. I've heard a few talk of the future and boycotting but the only thing that really matters is the consumer. What the consumer wants, the consumer gets. The global demand for whatever is being produced. This really is the next revolution. Similiar to the 1900's when the demand for steel and manufacturing peaked. Which lead to the automobile...hmmm. What is next?? It’s really fascinating how all this comes together on its own. The demand for the product is what drives the price. Vic can make a plant here because he charges enough to make a profit and continue his business. People are willing to pay it because he sells more than a product, he sells a name. Something Japan or Mexico will never have. It might be old and traditional but its something Americans hold dear. We all have to wake up though. Its not just chocolate thats leaving, its the tech jobs that are being farmed out in India. The wild west for the tech industry. People were complaining about tech support long before it went to india. Does anybody really think they care about where it comes from just so long as they have it. Its all about stock price. When it comes to stocks the only job a CEO has is to make profit for the stock holders. Sad but true. There is very little weight put on how hard it will be to lay off employees but rather how “weâ€￾ will rationalize laying off employees. Seen it before and we’ll see it again. We are already on our way out. We’ve been shown the door and the only thing left is to walk through it.

Ok so I wrote way tooooo much in this.... now back to whats important, SRTC!!!!

It's true Mike...the SRT8 motor was built in Mexico as well. Our local UAW (CAW here in Canada) has bumper stickers out right now that everyone is seeing on alot of Ford GM and Chrysler products which says, "Out of a job yet? Keep buying foreign!" Needless to say, we're a big CAW/UAW city here...but it is somewhat of a misnomer...as everyone of those cars had parts that have probably been made abroad somewhere. Friends have told me things like, "Ya, but this Honda WAS made in Canada...not even 4 hours away from us" True true and the employees are Canadian and the money flows into the economy blah blah....but a lot of that profit goes back to Japan. It really is a win-lose situation as we all know NA autoworkers will not want to be paid 5-10 bucks an hour for that work and paycut. Durangatang is onto something...if the Big 3 created a huge demand for a new product...then, at least in part, things would turn around. GM should have released and refined there hybrid technology and electric cars more than a decade ago.
