Since I've had both, i was asked on the other forum, what my thoughts are, Its a long read, Here it is!!! Ok U asked, 1st On Build Quality, Fit and finish, The SRT kills the blazer, Hard to believe since we all know the panels and such dont line up on the SRT either. The engine bay has way nicer eye candy. And the sound and fell you get while the windows and sunroof open and close tell you the job is complete. Still not quite a BWM or Audi but way better than the SS. That apples and oranges, the SRT is more $$$ and is more of a luxury SUV. Well it is!!!(+1 SRT) Interior: The SRT wins there too. Better seats, better Molding in the 08 release , the black finish looks richer. To me .The cargo area is nicer in the SRT , the arm rest has nice compartments for change and other items .The blazer’s interior was like a rental car. However it does come with a full spare and a Air Compressor with a great Hose and gauge . (+1 SRT) (That comes in handy if you have to plug a hole made by a nail. In Middle of the night) Lets get to the performance. I must say My Mod'ed CAI havin blazer would put a hurtin on a stock SRT. (+1 SS), Stock for stock the GCSRT will destroy a TBSS(+1 to SRT), But thats not a fair comparison, I think a better match up is a TBSS VS RT model. Now the reason i think my Mod'ed SS was faster, is because it had the TMC adjusted so a roll from 20 or 30 mph would chirp the tires and give you a major rush of speed scaring small children and bystanders. Not sure if a point goes here.......(+1 SS) Now my Tune'd SRT has a 93/CAI Canned tune, and i've only had my SRT for a month and hvnt had a chance to go WOT. The tune does make a great difference, but still not as monstrous as the SS tune. Like i said, thats because there is no TMC adjustments done, and im kinda glad cause i dont want any tranny issues. Mind u , I did blow the 2nd and 3rd gears on my SS once. They said it was the sparg. Replaced under warranty. Exhaust Note!! Sweet notes on both cars, But when i remote start the Hemi from in the house, I just get a chill when that Big ole 6.1 starts to Rumble. I keep it parked in my Garage and it makes the house shake. It Reminds me of this 69 350 Camaro i had back home, Side pipes and hooker headers, cam just chopping. OOO baby!! and Forum, Answer me this, Does the SRT chop a bit like its got a hot cam in it when you start it up, or is that just mine? (+1 SRT) The SS has a great note, it’s more sedate at idle , but WOT is sweet, But Why notDual exhaust !!!! on the TBSS.!!! Now for Hi speed performance. The blazer was super stable at and above 110MPH. (+1 SS) I hnvt been above 100 in the SRT yet so i cant say how it feels. Now for Wet weather performance: The SRT rocks and i love driving in bad weather. Ive always had AWD cars. Audi's still have one, But the SRT is super stable in the Rain, No slips no slides not even thru puddles, A big part of that would be the Tires, But im no expert, but she feels very stable in the rain. (+1SRT) The Blazer was very squirrelly in any wet weather, Very hard to control, I’m not talking about stomping on the pedal to bring the rear around, i mean just moving at a nice clip around a bend and she would slide. Like i said im no expert , that could be a tire issue, Both have Eagle RSA's, just the SRT's are runflats. Interior Space The blazer wins, More head, leg , and cargo room. HA! but who buys these for those reason's ? Some people do. So the SS wins. ( +1 SS) Towing The SS wins. (+1 SS) Now for crowd pleasing: Glances, I get more looks in the GCSRT, People ask, what is that ? so that’s all a matter of preference, The SRT has more Pop than the SS, The staggered stance of the tires are BMWx5ish, The Dual center exhaust is a Killer, As long as you live in an area where you dont have to parallel park like NYC ,where they play bumper cars. I cringe every time i have to leave her parked on a city street, which has been just once. (+1SRT) So take this with a grain of salt. Just my two cents on some very Hot, Very Fast SUV's. Sports utility Vehicles. So if i counted correctly, The score is SRT= 6 , SS = 5, To me its not even close, The SRT just gives me chills and stirs my soul. Makes me remember Fountain Ave in BKLYN, back in the day when I was a young boy and my brother would take me to the street race's there, i was hooked !!!! What about u? What does the SRT do for you? Why did you buy one? :thanks:
WOW, great review. I have always like the TBSS, but the Jeep just wins for overall package. IMO. Now, I do not have the Jeep (wish I did. lol) but I can say that I was a Ford person for a couple decades. I am by no means a brand specific person, just buy what fits my needs at the time. In steps Chrysler 3 years ago. It was the wifee's time to pick herself out a new vehicle and Ford was dragging azz with the new GT500. We went to a Dodge dealership for her to look at what they had to offer and in the showroom was a beautiful Black SRT10 Truck (RC). Maureen fell in love instantly. Well, that is what she got. Not the black one though, Silver. Everyone know her here as "mrssrt10". lol A year later, I bought a Jag (S Series) had it for four months and absolutely HATED it. Went to get another SRT10 truck but Maureen talked me out of having two two doors in the garage. lol I kept going back to this beautiful Blue R/T Charger with 20's on it. Salesman said the SRT8 Charger was still a few months out from arriving. hmm I couldn't wait that long. lol Got the R/T. A month later my dealer calls me with a surprise that the SRT8 Charger popped in on a truck. hmmm I had to go check it out. lol I fell in love. ONly problem was I was way upside down on the R/T (STUPID Jag). Call Maureen and told her about it. She stopped by after work to look at it and she really liked it as well. Next day Maureen called me from work and told me to go buy as an Xmas present. WOOT! I love my Wife.
OMG She's a Keeper, very cool, Im jealous u got a Challenger. Nice, Post some pic's when u get a chance. Thats a fast Viper Ram u have there also. Thanks for the reply....
Not a Challenger... Yet. A the Charger. We will get the Challenger in 2010 when it is available in a Vert. And yes, M and me have been married just over 14 years now. And we are like newly weds.
Very cool, I've been married for 9 but together 15, Wow did i just type that, time flies. He that Findeth a wife......Needeth to also findeth the wife Mod, lol J/k love it most times, but looking at our Children always makes me smile.
A from NJ who also has a TBSS. Very nice guy. He used to visit my other forum in srt8oc about a year ago.
I talked to a couple guys in a TBSS club and they said the weakest part of there trucks is the tranny. They were saying you got to baby them. I never have owned anything but a mopar since 1959 so im taking there word for it.
great write up!!! the first time i laid eyes on the jeep at the srt track experiece, i just fell in love with it!! if i had seen one before buying the charger, i would have probably gone that route, but they were not out then so the charger is my baby!!! still trying to talk the wife into getting one instead of her envoy!!! lol
Nice writeup!!...the SS is a great truck, but it just doesnt "POP" the way our rig does- Getting this truck is the best thing ive ever done!
^^^^^^^^^^+1 I will NEVER get rid of my Jeep. I LOVE IT. I plan on getting a little honda beater for a DD next year and park my jeep and let the mods flow
1.Actually I think 6.0L vs 6.1L is a closer comparrison than a 6.0L vs a 5.7L 2.I've had mine up to 160 with no issues would drive the same at 120mp as it does at 70mph Just my opinion:thanks:
Its pretty simple for me, the TBSS is just butt ugly. I think it is one of the worst looking vehicles that GM has. It has absolutely no style and looks like an oversized HHR. You can put a Corvette engine into a Yugo and its still a Yugo. The Jeep is another story. I get people just about everywhere I go asking what it is. When I tell them its a Jeep GC they are amazed that its in stock form. I guess they cant beleive that inside that beautiful exterior is a 6.1 HEMI with all wheel drive ready to kick some ass. The only vehicle I have owned that gets more attention that this is my 04 Viper SRT-10.
