Scared the living crap outta me at about 120 kph... I was cruisng along and accelerated into the passing lane and "BOOM" then a massive continued vibration...thought for sure the motor had gone south but was able to coast to an off ramp and limp to a stop before the flatbead arrived. The engine and tranny seem fine but there is the nastiest grinding noise and then a big grinding-thud! every rear wheel rotation. As I limped up a side street, the people working outside all stared at me and when squnity-eyed as if to say "OMG, what is that?" So LX owners, what do we think happened? Gears? 1/2 shaft? The dealer will be calling me later - any guesses? On top of which no rental coverage for mechanical/warranty issue so I'm paying for the daily rental of an 08 GC Laredo (which is OK I guess, lol, at least it's another 5-star vehicle)
Seriously pull the rear diff cover plate off and I bet you see the issue, check the rear main seal as well follow the driveshaft back to where it comes into the back of the gear housing and see if its leaking.
Left that for the dealer to fart around with. Time'll tell but I'll keep y'all posted if interested. J.
so you were just cruising and it just blew up on you?....were you accelerating or decelerating? something musta been screwy for it to just blow up like that
That sucks Joe. 1) Do you have a Quaife? 2) Did you go into limp mode? From my and others experience, if the haftshaft goes, you immediately go into limp mode 3) How many miles on the beast? 4) Ever have any service done to the Rearend? Fluid checked/filled? If this is a warranty covered item, I would demand that the Dealership pay for your rental. Especially since they will obviously have your Maggy for longer than 24 hours. Sounds close to what happened to Nathan (Reddfoxx) when he hard launched his maggie beast at the track I think it was the spider gears on his
You don't have any mods even do you Joe? Dang, I thought our rears weren't too bad either (cept for the half shafts). Keep us posted, I for one am very interested to hear what blew.
Hmm...no mods and this happens... could it be a suspension issue like what the Pedders guys keep talking about? Oh and way to write a EQ worthy title! :blink: :imao:
Yup, Stevo, had just gotten onto the freeway behind an SL 500 AMG (I was anxious to watch him take off...going about 70 mph and then put the hammer down and "Boom" baby. Thanks, Ron. Nope, no quaife, didn't go to limp, about 20,00 miles on her and because of the relatively low mileage hadn't had the rear end lube checked yet (there's another one for th EQ, thanks, Tam, lol).
Based on nothing seen mechanically or fluid-wise, Wade, I think you're probably right...but it seems remarkable from a roll-on. Hmmmm.
