Now, I cant say i was overly surprised to see my car running a little hotter than normal this weekend...i was out in the parking lot at the car show and the temps out there were over 100* with lots of humidity.... but as i was driving i noticed that the car (which usually runs at about 183*)...was up around 200*...it didnt suddenly jump or anything it was just high i also heard a little noise from the fans that sounds like you stuck the baseball card in the spokes...but only when the fan is on high...when its on low it sounds 100% normal im gonna stick my head down there later on when i get home to make sure nothing is hitting or anything like that, but my overall question would be Should this concern me at all that the cars temp was up about 17* from its normal running temp, or is it just from the excessive heat? ***by normal running temp...i mean i was on the highway driving at a pretty steady speed and RPM and noticed the change in temp***
I see that you have the 180 stat. My former SRT8 had the 180 and would stay between 185-190 on the highway with temps in the 90s and good ole TN high humidity. The fans should have little or no effect on temps when you are at hwy speeds. If your car usually stays around 183 at hwy speeds and now is 200 I would say you have something wrong. Coolant level?.....raditor obstucted?
not sure...it was too hot to look! hahaha... but it would go up and down a bit too...it would go up to 200...then down to 190ish...then up...i usually check the coolant level anytime im under the hood cleaning or something.... it could use a few drops but its a little more than half way between "full" and "fill"...maybe ill top it off to "full" and see if that helps out any
Sounds like the coolant level is fine.....if the temp is varing 10 degrees you may have a bad stat...could be staying closed to long........of course it can be other things to...water pump, clogged cooling ports....dont know..
its about 20* cooler out today...so i might take a ride when i get home and see what the temp looks like...
steveo - first, the 200 temps while running in a hot parking lot during a VERY hot day is not unusual at all!!!! my car routinely runs areound 185 in town. but i get stuck in traffic for any decent amount of time on a hot day, it will creep up to 200 as well. not unusual at all!!!! do not worry about seeing 200, not an issue. second, the noise you are hearing is the thin rubber seal that goes between the fan housing and the radiator..... it has come loose and has been sucked into the high fans. some what common issue with our cars. tsb is out for it, just take it to the dealer after you reach into the fan area and tear the damn piece out!!!! good luck and do not stress on the occassional 200 temp sitting in traffic on a hot summer day........
hey Chris...he is saying it varies between 190-200 at steady hwy speeds...you would be right about traffic though..
iff while driving it is around those temps, then yes, there maybe an issue with obstruction within the system....
so if i go out when i get home...and the temp is back to 183*....should i just write it off as being a really hot day? lol
