Found this on LXF. The guy states his 5.7 with no mods (except the 180 tstat) went from 275 rwhp to 413 rwhp with the blower! That's 138 rwhp gain... on a 5.7. Dyno chart included in post. http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=112622&page=2
anyone can blow up their engine momo, its how rock steady that tune is. personally, i wouldnt go over a 100rwhp increase on a stock block.
Wonder what boost he's running. Those are pretty good numbers, especially for a 5.7, but like Steve said, I'm looking to keep my engine all in one piece... for now anyway! Lol!
Can someone explain this?!?! Especially considering the 5.7 link above?!?! That 5.7 made 413 rwhp w/5 lbs boost... From another member who's car is complete by Vortech: "the baseline to the wheel's HP they got for my car was "321"! After the blower it was "400"! This was using a Mustang Dyno, that according to him are low across the board. Stock we have 425, with the blower we have 527. Do these numbers sound right to you guys! I thought it would be higher. According to the information put out by BMC, VORTECH was claiming 558 for the 6.1. They used a pre-production vehicle with a HEAVY tune. He told me VORTECH is only using 5-6 lbs boost and they are looking for power, but with reliability.
I said it before Jason and I'll say it again, 115 AT THE WHEELS is an aweful lot for only 5 psi. 558?? Don't know bro, don't know, that's why I had that thread asking if you "vortech" guys were gonna be getting your cars dyno'd.
I remember a fw folks saying 75-80 rwhp gains could be expected, but if a 5.7is running the same boost, MAYBE less, than the above 6.1, and gained over 100 rwhp, what's up?!?! The 5.7's are 75 crank HP short of our 6.1 crank hp... so how in the hell does this otherwise stock 5.7 end up with more hp than the 6.1?!?! I am so confused.
Question being how could a stock 5.7 w/same blower and boost end up with more HP than a 6.1 similarly equipped?!?! It isn't logical.

It isn't logical because you're assuming a 6.1L is simply a scaled up (in every detail) version of the 5.7L. They're not and comparing them like this is probably not valid. Your conclusion could still be correct. I don't know.
I would assume a very aggressive tune on the 5.7 vs a reliable tune on the 6.1 I also think the 5.7 can handle a bit more boost but I doubt its making more power then a comparably equipped 6.1...time will tell
A few thoughts. First off, you're presumably comparing different vehicles on different dynos on different days. Weak data at best. I also thought that the 75-85 RWHP gain discussed for the 6.1s was on 4.6 pounds of boost, not 5.5. You're not familiar with the tunes so one could be on the ragged edge of grenading the motor and one could be stupid safe. Lastly, as I mentioned before the 5.7 has a lower compression ratio so it will respond better to boost. Wait for Erik's lower compression 6.1 with blower, its going to blow away any 5.7.

I am confused where did you see a 5.7 w a S/C making more than a 6.1? My expectations are to safely make 500 RWHP on the stock block....obvioulsy there is plenty more to be had...but I don't want to push it until the motor is built.
The post he found on LX had a guy with a 5.7 that supposedly made 413 rwhp. Ryans made 400 rwhp. But what Adam said I totally forgot...even if its the same dyno different days makes a huge diff...Like I told Ryan a few minutes ago even if its only 400 thats almost 1/3 more power then you were making before...thats gonna be fun!
That 413 was on a dynojet........the 6.1 @ 400 was on a Mustang.......to put this in perspective my car only makes 430rwhp on spray on the Local Mustang dyno.......also certain Mustang dynos are worse than others.......if it's a drum like a dynojet it's only a couple of % different than the dynojet.......with the 12" roller Mustang it's a huge difference.
Presuming that most stock SRT8s dyno at about 360RWHP on a Dynojet, the above numbers would translate out to 449 RWHP on a dynojet. Weren't those dyno numbers from that 6.1 on 4.6 lbs of boost, not 5.5? Don't forget all the other unaccounted for variables too. Happy? and why can't the 5.7 guys have their day in the sun? The sun shines on every dog's ass every once in a while, and from all the pics I've seen on here - more often on Jason's.
