Well guys its almost done, so I thought I would post up here. I will start by saying this is my 2nd 300C and both had systems. This one I said I would not upgrade (Uhm yah OK). This one started off as me mad about the door speakers and how they do not play loud enough. I have never done a install on my own before, this was the first. Only thinkg I could not manage (tools) was cutting the rear deck, and fabricating the rear cover trim piece for the deck. My man Chad from Xtreme Audio and Design in Apache Junction, AZ did that for me. First the equipment. 1. Factory Deck. 2. PAC Audio AOEM1 add and amp with factory amp removed. 3. Up front Dynaudio 3 way set with 7" midbass, 4" midrange, 1.1" tweeter. 4. Image Dynamics ID10 Dual 2 ohm subs in the rear deck (Infinite Baffle). 5. Zapco Digital amp controller DRC up front. 6. Zapco DC650.6 digital amp with 10 band EQ, crossover, qbass ajustment, time alignment and DSP. I will say I have always loved the fact of having subs in the rear deck. Mainly 2 reason... Boxes are UGLY, and the trunk rattle even with Dynamat is obnoxious. This set up is not easy to do, but with a couple weeks work I got it right. 3/4" MDF, 2" bolts, Tons o Dynamat, 2 cans of expanding spray foam! This bass is set for SQ, and there is not alot of earth shattering ground pounding bass, but I will tell you its super clean. I love it because with the bass hitting off the rear glass you cannot tell where the bass is actually coming from. Sound like its coming from the front! The kicks I built with no glass, just wood, bondo, and vinyl. The doors were torn apart to get my dynamat in there, and I used the factory pods built with some MDF and dynamat to firm them up a lil. The midbass is sick I love it... These Dynaudio with the 3" voice coils are amazing. The amp is small 50x4 and 100x2. I have it bridged as a 3 channel putting out about 200x2 for the front stage and 500x1 for the subs at a 2 ohm load. Here are the pics! Let me know what you think.
DDDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNNN! That is some serious work bro. I bet it is going to look and sound like no other. POST pics of the finished product. Good luck, Ryan.
its a nice idea, but im pretty sure the sound would get muffled and wouldnt be too clear when the speakers are set that low in the car. where they are from the factory is already too low, i can only image what it would be like waaaay down there. the subs in the rear deck is a nice idea, but i too would wonder about its performance. there is no airspace set for the sub....how would it sound with nothing behind it? one thing is for sure though, its def a new idea and i would love to hear it in person. im an audiophile who has a pretty clean system in my car. the only problem is my epicenter and lc8 get beat up on by the factory head unit i have to use. i live in oakland and dont want my car getting broken into... :cry2:
New ideas? Nice ideas? LOL Uhm... Believe me I am not the first to do this by anyone's stretch of anyones imagination. First, up front those are called "kick panels". Anyone tht has competed in car audio will tell you that all good car audio systems will have speakers there. They are aimed off axis at the other person in the car... Check this link, EVERY high end install done will have them there. EVERY ONE. Check all the cars in the gallery. http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/catalog.html As far as the subs do a search its called "Infinite Baffle" this is the ways iTS SUPPOSED TO BE with nothing behind the sub LOL. It uses the ENTIRE TRUNK as the enclosure. It used to be called "Free Air" but in this case the front of the sub is sealed completely from the back waves. Again if you were an audiophile I am pretty sure you would have heard of this, here is another link to describe this. http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxes1.asp#1 Thank you! With $1200.00 in the amp $1300.00 in the front speakers $400.00 in the subs and $400.00 in the EQ alone, it better sound better than stock. LOL Thank you sir, it took about 6 weeks to get it right.
Great work and I'm glad you took the time to dynomat the area you will be glad you did and you did the doors right you will notice when the stereo is off (if that will ever happen-lol) the road noise will be quiter as well-Great work man.
Thank you! I love Dynamat, I have 2 bulk pack boxes in the car, and really could have used another. At $200.00 a box I couldnt see spending more cash on a 3rd!
I'm a big fan of second skin stuff did my entire Hemi truck in the stuff plus a roll of the damplifier pad to hide all the silver stuff but anything is better than not doing it which ALOT of people skip that part I can tell this is not your first gig
i prob didnt explain enough. i was talking about an lx first off and how much noise radiates from our engine compartment. having speakers that low near the firewall will no doubt transfer tons of noise into the midrange. secondly, the panel you made in the rear looks like it will cause vibration and because you are running without airspace in mind will no doubt give you a weak bass response. you say its "clean" yet i cant see how you would achieve this. btw, you noted the infinite baffle in your original post. i am no doubt a novice, ive only won a couple car audio contests here and there. though, that was when i was into more of a loud sound rather than a clean sound. it sounds like your into clean, so that is why i had the questions.
Nice job so far. Yes, kick pannels RULE in the audio world for imaging as long as they are angled correctly. I competed in IASCA for many years and most all the high end cars with excellent front end imaging either used these or rebuilt the entire dash. Are those free-air subs? If they are your trunk will work as the enclosure. Won't sound as good as an enclosure, but will work unless you plan on attendin a SPL contest...LOL! Nice job Brudda, keep up the pics.
The speakers used are called DYNAUDIO. Do a search, the midrange is a 4" speaker is not a bass producer. Its actually an enclosed speaker! The back needs no airspace if fact if you put it in a empty swimming pool it would sound the same as it would in a thimble. I can only assume you have never heard of DLS, DYNAUDIO, HERTZ Mille, Rainbow, Audison, Zapco these are SQ speakers amps and processing. I am pretty sure like most people you assume Kicker or Rockford or JL to be HIGH END. This system is far from a system that will break SPL records but for SQ I think it would give most systems a good run for the money! The infinite baffle set up is very uncommon and thats why I love it! I will rarely see something like this, that sounds like this! Pretty sure after tuning I will get the 10s to play in the 40s or 50s pretty loud. With the eq set up. Wait till next month when I keep the 10s in there, and add a switch for 2 x 15" in a similar infinite baffle facing the seats in the back of the trunk! Thank you! Yes they are suitable for Free Air, IB, Ported or Sealed. I talked to Matt over at Image he did a Charger that was a similar set up. I have always had some higher end audio, never really found a sub I liked. This one plays how I like nice at medium volume. You are right if some one loves pounding jaw dropping bass, I would tell them to for get it! BUT MY plans for the near future include 2 IB 15s from Image Dynamics on a switch so I can choose between the 15s or the 10s. LOL... I still have not figured this one out completely I think I heard I need 6 relays to make this work... Hmmmmm
Nice setup Paul. I have 144 sq ft of Dynamat Extreme in my Z28. I won't get into what the install is. I'm into tubes. Acutually have about 5 Butler tube amps laying around, and a JBL/Crown sub amp.
I would love to hear the tubes Hal I have not had a chance to hear them. Are you coming to Anthem Saturday or Sunday?
I was thinking of either a silver vinyl which I have or a black carbon fiber vinyl/ What do you think?
I went with a plexi with neon on the underside. I also made pannels that match the carpet so I can keep everything "stelth" looking and it also protects the items when I throw my golf clubs and the kids in the trunk... Depending on what theme you are looking at, it is always nice to bring some of the outside color of your vehicle into the trunk.
