I'm glad they mention drivetrain and wonder if they will forge the stock internals and upgrade to a transmission that will handle this much power? What is sad is if they do not address tuning, stock internals and a beefier transmission I would never consider one, did I mention tuning!!!! Sounds like the same smoke up the butt Mr.Norm did with the Hemi truck and tried to pass it off as a really functioning truck with a supercharger-LOL. Until Chrysler actually is on board and builds these right from the factory I will NEVER buy any Chrysler product that puts out that much power without all of the above addressed.
iiiiiiiinteresting... anyone want to venture a guess as to why they chose to work of the 5.7 R/T instead of the SRT model? although its not TOO shocking to me as all the Saleen Mustangs are based off of GT's and not Cobras...
Intersting to say the least. I wonder if Saleen is PISSED that Ford went to Shelby for the new GT500 Stang? lol In any event, Saleen has been a proven product in the Ford market for years, so I would believe that the Saleen Challenger (still hard put those two names together lol) will be second to none in the performance catagories. Nice find Snail.
I was considering the Saleen before the SRT as every Saleen i have ever seen has been excellent quality... The price of the one i wanted kept me from getting it though hahaha :cry2: i am very excited to see what big stevo can do with the challenger!
This will definitely be intersting! Should be a great car, and if it works like all the Ford's he has done..it will have a factory warranty as well! Oh BTW...guess who is a SALEEN dealer...he he..can't wait to see what kind of parts they manufacture for our rides!
A round of cocktails says it's because just like Mr. Norm, they don't plan on touching the internals and just want to slap on a blower and utilize the lower compression ratio of the 5.7. And if that's the case, good luck to ole Stevey boy.
from what I've heard Saleen was very pissed at Ford for replacing SVT with Shelby brand... even though Ford build Saleen a new plant in Michigan to crank out the Ford GT. as for the Saleen S281's based on Mustang GT's and not Cobras... true, they were the mainline vehicle, but there were some ultra exclusive Saleens based on the Cobras as well... and their production numbers were in the teens. last year there was talk of Saleen working on the Camarro, now the Challenger... I guess he's diversifying. good! --Russ PS. it was nice to bump into Steve Saleen at SEMA, he looked pretty busy too.
I read about this a a few days ago in Motor Trend mag. and forgot all about posting it. Actually Steve Saleen has left Saleen and is starting a new company called "SMS", hence the name.... SMS 570 or 570X Challenger. Here is the story from Road and Track and sort of a concept of what it may look like:; http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=10&article_id=6846
