I recently installed the BWoody Thermal Spacers. They are superior to anything I have seen or used to date. They dont use a gasket sandwich, that tends to vacuum leak, and do not cause the dogleg interference between the manifold and head mating area.

They are extremley efficient and keep the manifold cool to the touch!!

They are half the thickness of the current offerings and seem to be made of some phenolic material as well. I understand they are fabricated in Germany. They have too be good if there made in Deutchland!!

Also they seal very well........no additional gaskets or chances of leaks.

If they are made from the same stuff as Wienershnizel and Pils, I like it :)

Nice! If my GS ones start to leak I will be kicking them to the curb and buying these. Steve do you only need a gasket on the bottom and none on the top?

I installed the BWoody Intake Spacers last week. Greg/Mike shipped them overnight for my install (thanks guys!) and they work very well. They're thinner and placing your hand on the intake after heated runs is no problem. I removed my 'old' ones about a month ago due to discoloration. They were intact though. Good buy here from BWoody!

No, you use no gaskets at all. Top or bottom

Does anyone know for sure if these are actually a good thing? Doesn't preventing the heat soak of the intake manifold in effect trap more heat in the heads/block? So your engine would run hotter, in the end, than if it were allowed to dissipate that heat through the intake manifold...

Yes, it would trap more heat in the heads/block since you are eliminating (or reducing) a radiator. I don't think that would have a measurable effect though since our coolant systems are more than adequate. So you're probably not "trapping" any more heat but the coolant would be carrying away more than before.

There is still a question as to whether reducing the manifold's temperature by that much has a significant effect on the air charge temperature. That is the goal after all. Cam wasn't quite able to get a temperature probe at the cylinder port to measure this. I'm a little skeptical.

I'm guessing the volume of the manifold is about the same as the engine (6.1L). If so, at 4000 rpm, the air in the manifold would be completely changed 33 times per second. Any bit of air would only spend about 0.03 seconds in the manifold. Most of that air would not be in contact with or get near the inner surface of the manifold. I have no idea about the physics of heat transfer to air but I'm wondering how much of a temperature rise there is from passing through the manifold.

My question is if they are half the height of the "other" ones and we are running a catch can from BT thats adjusted for the "other" will it still fit? If so ill take a set.

No gaskets required. They go on just as you see in the photo.
