I'm sure that's part of it, it's all crap tho. It's dif from state to state too cause it's ok to tint the front windows in Nevada and I believe New Mexico too, right? Arizona too??

My thing with the cops around here in MD... I figured if I get pulled over for tiint, its going to be because I was speeding as well or something stupid... .
I know very very few amount of people here that get pulled for tint...

I know when a heavily tinted car approaches an intersection I am extremely cautious, because I cannot pick up any visual clues as to the drivers intentions or whether or not the driver even sees me (especially when I ride my motorcycle). I would guess it's this same uneasiness that the police feel when approaching a blacked out window, since most bad guys play for keeps. Just my .02

i'd agree with that...gotta remember that anytime a police officer approaches your car...they have to approach under the assumption that anything can happen....

so if they cant see you...they dont know if you have a gun...gotta think how they do sometimes i guess...you dont know if that limo tint'ed driver is an old lady with bad eyes who likes it dark or a gangsta ready to start shootin!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahaha

And if you end up on a two wheeler someday, you will absolutely scan wildly looking for any advantage you can find to help keep you safe.

I've been left alone around here but the cops can definitely do something. I only have 20% tint all the way around...except the windshield lol..Hell, at any given moment and any given major intersection, they can sit there and pop anyone for a rolling stop, or a traffic light, or speeding etc etc. People are getting more and more reckless here and impatient as well. The new batch of immigrants flooding in daily from all different parts of the world, don't help matters either. Many actually impede traffic and drive below speed limits. Some even come close to stopping where there are NO fricken stop signs! Damn, do I love to beep the horn and scare the crap out of them at that point and then blast by them when I get a chance lol..

Wow! I actually didn't know Florida cops could be like that about window tint. Good thing it's not a moving violation ticket. I haven't gotten a moving violation ticket in 3 years now.... knock on wood

haha, no doubt. mad that you can outrun em without even trying.

i see, that makes sense because then it would be "fixed'.

haha, i see what youre talking about buddy. the fine was moved from 80 to 120 or somewhere thereabouts. basically they dont care anymore if you fix it, they just want your money. if you get the ticket written off as fixed by a cop, you only have to pay the $25 "processing" cost. if you dont want to put in the effort to have a cool cop sign off on it, then it turns into a fine....aka the $80 you had to spend and today would have spent $120.

cops dont have anything to do im guessing. they dont stop crime so what else can they do??? thats right, ticket the civilians they know will pay their fines.

Yea I even have my whole windshield tinted so I know they were going to give me a hard time about that. It was crazy but I knew I was screwed when they were looking at my car and it was not for looks. They said they could not evev see who was driving it.

First: it sucks that law abiding people get tickets for minor crap such as tint. IMO, you get stopped for tint, run your info, if you're a good guy: have a nice day. That should be it... maybe a warning, at worst, a 'fix-it-ticket'. Of course, if the person getting pulled over is being a douche, well... then they get the ticket.

Second: it is a safety issue for law enforcement as well as other drivers. My work car has dark tint, and I can tell you that my night vision is hampered by it (but it's a mandatory thing for my line of work). My personal car has the second to lightest tint. Reason: I can see better (aka: am safer), and its a respect thing for other LEO's, plus it obscures my face 'just enough' (in case some asswipe I've dealt with is nearby).

Third: Most felony arrests occur as a result of traffic stops. Therefore, cops use 'minor' violations as probable cause to pull someone over if they suspect something. That's how scumbags are usually busted... often, normal folks get caught in the web.

    My tint ticket was $125.
The officer was cool, but unfortunately he blew my budget for getting the proper tint.

If he'd given me a warning, I would have gotten it re-done the following day (it's currently a little too dark for my tastes).
    Oh well.....

Don't police cars still have a pa system? Couldn't the LEO just inform the driver to roll down the windows before they approach the vehicle? I can understand why LEO's need to be able to see if there is potential danger behind the tinted windows, but to give a ticket instead of just telling someone to roll down their windows seems a little ridiculous to me.

I know in NY it is illegal, but you are rarely bothered for it. I got a tint ticket like 2 yrs back when I had my 99 Grand and I went to court for it, stepped up and he asked if I removed the tint (which I didnt) I said of course and it was dropped.

I guess I've been fortunate so far. I have 20% on the back and 30% on the fronts. I'm hoping that the lighter fronts will allow them to at least see me in the car so they won't get the itch to pull me over for it. I also have the official FOP star on my plate that I got from a friend who's a LEO, so if they do pull me over I'll try the old FOP courtesey thing. I also have a cousin on the force. If all that fails I'll just bend over and let them give it to me good!!!!!

Ok guys, I'm a long time lurker but obviously I've never posted before. I just had to peek in and say something about this subject.

I am not a police officer, I have 2 weeks left in the academy. I just wanted to let you guys know what happened to one of ours 2 years ago. I've told this story on many dodge forums because this topic usually seems to come up. Officer Keith Howtz had was on patrol and wanted to work a little over time writing some tickets. He sees a crown vic speeding down a residential street and pulls em over. He does everything by the book. Absolutely everything. He notices the tint and asks the driver(on the PA) to roll down the windows. He rolls down all four and Officer Howtz begins walking towards the car. The guy in the car turns around and shoots through the tinted back glass at the officer striking him in the head once and killing him. The subject then steps out and shoots him 5 times in the chest.

Now, would that have happened if the tinting wasn't wasn't so much that he couldn't see through it? Possibly. But the officer would have been able to at least defend himself when he saw what was going on. I don't give a crap what anyone says about it. Its illegal and its not safe for us. Its illegal for a reason and if you wanna complain about it then take it up with your state lawmakers.

Now, who has one of these cars up for sale? I'm lookin to buy when I graduate.

i always thought leos were taught to walk up to a car at an angle specifically for this reason. either way what a tragedy, the shooter was either extremely lucky or an helluva shot.
