Lately, I've been having a problem shifting the car into gear. 1st to 2nd is bad and even when I'm lightly shifting into 2nd from 1st. I also notice 3rd to 4th is bad too. Sometimes it pops out of 4th when I'm on it 3rd and shifting to 4th gear. Once in awhile I also can't get the car into Reverse and tends to pop out of gear or grind with the clutch all the way down to the floor. I'm using a Maddog 72% shifter and I'm not sure if it's causing the problem. I was told it might be from a bent clutch fork just cause of the fact it's not staying in gear. Any ideas what this might be from? I'm also thinking of going to a Maddog 58% shifter now or back to stock for awhile until I order the 58%.

i highly doubt it's the shifter. have you changed the tranny fluid recently? try that, although from what you're describing it's past the point that a fluid change can fix. sounds like you need a rebuild. welcome to the club haha.

I hope I don't need a rebuild. The car only has about 41K on it but I'm having a new clutch installed for the Stage 3 so I'll be changing my trans fluid soon hopefully.

Also my car is still under warranty technically since I have the 7 year/70,000 miles.

wait on the s3 install and take it to dodge then, see if they'll fix it under warranty. it's a long shot, but you never know.

That's what I think I'm going to do since it's going to be at least another week or 2 until I get S3. Plus I'm getting a hold of stock shifter just in case they give me crap about that being the problem with the trans. It only happens too when the car has been driven almost all day with stop and go traffic.

A buddy of mine had his 3rd sycro's go out on him and he had no 3rd at all on the car. The car was covered under warranty even with his DCR S3 on the car. He had only raced the car once at the track before the S3 install and he noticed they were gone just driving on the highway to work. They replaced the 3rd and 4th gear sycro's.

he got lucky. the dealerships in this area basically don't work on our cars. i had my first transmission go to hell and three dealers later no one would fix it. one dealership even kicked my car out because i had a cf hood and rims....yea that's what made the tranny go bad. rims. ugh.

i had my car doing that at one point and it was because my flywheel was in multiple pieces, but the fork was fine. it could be just a bad clutch.

but either way, see if dodge will cover it

How much should I rev it up to? My TCS is set at 3500rpms and wouldn't want the 2-step to go off. haha

As soon as I get a stock shifter back in the car, I'll bring it by Dodge to be checked out. In the morning the car shifts fine, but once I get into more city driving and stuff it just acts up on me. I'll try and check the trans fluid level tonight at my SRT club meet. I would be amazed if it was just due to the fact that my trans fluid hasn't been changed yet. A guy in our club had a similar problem but he changed the trans fluid with the Royal Purple and said he shifted 10x better.

You'd probably be looking at a couple thousand for a rebuild including labor. Screw that and just find yourself a lower mileage transmission on the forums. I've seen some go for $500-$800. The parts alone, when bought through the dealership, for a rebuild are upwards of $1,350, IIRC. The stuff inside the transmission is NOT cheap. Hopefully Dodge will take care of you under warranty, though.

I just rebuilt mine and it will be going back in tomorrow. I was not having your problems, just a slight 3rd gear grind and a terribly slipping clutch. I replaced the shift forks, synchros, clutch release fork, etc. Didn't get any other hardened parts, though; however, I did have everything cryogenic treated locally for $50. Not too shabby for some additional strength on such a crucial part of the car!

if you're paying $1300 for parts alone you're getting seriously ripped off or you're replacing everything in there, which isn't usually necessary. i just rebuilt my tranny and parts were $500 (input shaft, 3rd/4th gear synchro, blocker rings, and a few other odds and ends - the usual suspects). my boyfriend had his tranny rebuilt as well and it was about $1k for parts and labor at a tranny shop.

No one is paying $1,300 for anything.

Head to the dealership because in August of 2007, the parts for a rebuild of a 2003 T850 added up (and I'm talking everything inside) to about $1,350. 2 synchros, an input shaft and some rings can all be had on eBay for probably less than $500 shipped, and I don't consider that a rebuild.

Here are a few number breakdowns for you, for a rebuild - not the replacement of a few parts:

    Brass shift forks (1, 2 and 3) = $275.94
    Synchros (all) = $1,119,80

These are CURRENT dealer costs of said parts, which is why my comments say "bought through the dealership." Do you even bother reading my entire post or are you so gung-ho to inaccurately discredit factual information?

    *EDIT*

Found an input shaft on eBay for $200 + shipping, so $220 shipped, 3/4 synchro for $180 shipped on the SRTforums and blocker rings for $11.90 a piece.

a rebuild is generally considered fixing whatever the hell broke. no one replaces everything in the tranny, that would be silly since it's a hell of a lot cheaper to just get one out of a crashed one, which is what most people do if their tranny is in that bad shape (which it pretty much never is). 3rd gear and the 3/4 synchro is generally what needs replacing, the rings are done while you're in there, and the input shaft only if you managed to break it. in the srt world that's a rebuild.

i do read your posts, but you're so arrogant and eager to prove that everyone else is an idiot i don't know why i bother.

There's so much laughable information in your post I'm half tempted to print it out and tape it to my office wall so I can get a good laugh when I come in every morning.

When a person thinks an input shaft is replaced ONLY when it's broken, you know the conversation is not even worth investing time in any more. :thanks:

I tryed doing what you said yesterday and the car didn't move at all. So maybe it might be something else like sychro's?
