Heh, if you want to go conservative get one where you don't have to keep blipping the throttle to keep it running at the light. Outside of that you want as much rupp as possible. :woot: And for the family, the kids find the rythmic motion and vibration very soothing.
IN this order: Play it safe and set the car up to get the power to the ground first. 1. Half Shafts/Quaife 2. 3.55 gears and/or TC? (TC not real necessary if you want to road race more than drag race. 3.55 could be advantage to both types of racing and will be real cheap to install if done at same time as Quafe.) 3. HCI (look around and find a good cam that gives you the low to mid-range power/torque you need. Top end power will not do much good in road racing.) 4. Wait for more money and 6.1L power innovations to advance, Since the Predator they are coming out like flies. 5. Now forge the inside (I would say 392 cause it will be more reliable and lots cheaper) 6. Boost adder
Ther HHP cam (Stage II) idles really nice and the car is completely streetable...no stalling and well behaved. I would personally go with the HHP Stage II minus the cam, and see if they can get you a custom grind or talk to Hal. He has the man with the goods.
On my Navy salary I could hardly afford my 80' Chevy 1500.................................. and that was in 96 to 2000.................. Beer and fun always got in the way of affording nice stuff But I really like the I-charger. I want to buy one for the Viper (cough truck cough) to keep it faster than the 8 once I tweak on her alittle.
I Non-Concur NetNathan, I respectfully disaree. For me, if I'm ginna spend money on mods, I want the most bang for the buck performance wise. And, I want it now! I'd buy the power adders and or do the cam & heads first. Most bang for the buck: Instant gratification. Then fix stuff as it breaks. (sorry honey, I HAVE to buy the 1000hp half shafts or my car won't run) Bud already has KW's, Shock Tower Braces, & Brembo's. While I know the Quaife and the 1/2 Shafts are important, I'd do em later. Besides, there's no way to win the "Honey I need a Supercharger" battle later. JMHO
I like that! "Honey, I'm just as pissed off as you are. That scum didn't say anything about having to get the rear end when he sold me this stuff!" Jees Dan... sometimes when it's terminal it's just better to say "You're going to be OK".
Three months later and four to go until I can pull the plug on some major mods and I'm still about as uncertain as I was when I started. RDP is distancing themselves from Harrop and developing a twin screw at a more reasonable price...thank God!. Still no word from PPP on their twin screw. I know what I want...I want power, and I want it now! Now I'm reading this shit about "a" tranny problem with one car with a roots blower. I'll let that one develop a bit. The only centri SC I would consider is the Procharger because I can keep my strut tower brace. I keep falling back on the H/C/I combo, quaife, halfshafts, and some smaller goodies....but, REALLY want a twin screw! I think I come from the same school of thought that Dan does....and thats probably been the root of most of my life's problems!! LOL And just so I don't sound too novice to Adam, I know I'll need a CMR tune for any of this! LOL
I have definitely considered that and many have told me a 392 is more easily tunable. My issue is, what I do with this chunk of change will be it for a long while....at least a few years. So I'm trying to find the most bang for the buck power wise now. I know I can do smaller things here and there.
