Welll yesterday I went to Nashville Super Speedway and attended the Music City Mustang Club's Track Day. Road course using a short section of the back stretch and all the front (120MPH there). Lot's of really cool car loving people. Ended up in the middle of the BMW club as I got there early and they just parked all around me. Mostly track prepped older M3's and one mean new 335i(that car was fast!) I ran in the intermediate group which was perfect as the pro group had some serious track cars. Few Porsche's that were stupid fast, couple of Z06's and one old school 3 series that was hanging with those big boys. Each group had 25 cars and my group had ~15 mustangs, 1 old 90's vette, the 335i, 5 miata's, S2000, 2 Nissan Z's and tracked Sentras. This is my third track day and it was a blast. I got 90 miles of track time in 6 sessions. I was probably the 4th fastest vehicle and everyone was stunned. I had so many people come up to me after a session and say they never thought they would get passed by a Jeep at a track day. One woman came over and said her son was doggin' her husband becasue his Mustang got passed by a Jeep. During one session they let a passenger ride so one of the BMW guys asked to ride along. His was in disbelief at the handling and just kept saying that the truck is a monster. The BMW guy was also my witness to the fact that the other cars did not want to wave the Jeep by them. We watched cars get waved by but they would not wave me by. One Rousch Mustang was trying so hard not to let me pass that he spun out around a curve. They had to give to old Vette the "let him pass" flag before he would do it. One of the Mustang guys could not believe he could not loose me. I never could pass that one but I was never more than a car lengths away. None of you should ever be worried about being able to hang at a track day. Go do it! It is a blast and you will as usual be the coolest vehicle at the track. Sorry I don't have pics becasue I went alone and my wife took the camera to an end of school party for my girls. I will look for some locally. Only worry was the Jeep got VERY hot after 6-7 laps. Water got to 240 and oil got to almost 300. I ran water over the engine after each session but over the course of the day it would still get hotter faster. The "R" in SRT needs some upgrades. Chris, thanks for the front tires, they worked perfectly! Now all you SRT'ers go find a road course track and make some noise.
AWESOME time for sure...only thing is, I wish you had VIDEO! That would have been awesome to see....heehehehe
wow, that is great!!! i can only imagine the look on some of the guys in the euro rides faces when they look in the mirror to see a "suv" on their bumper!!! way to represent!!!
Wow, that sounds great!! Can't believe those idiots wouldn't let you pass, they should have been black flagged and then black flogged, lol!! At least you got em, very nice!! Sounds like the best part of taking an SRT8 to the track, be it a Jeep, Charger, 300 or Magnum, is to shock the shiat out of the other racers, lol! Seems that's the responce everyone that's done a track day gets. Dang it, I gotta do one and let my Maggie shine!!
The guy in one of the Sentra's said he got me on video passing him but he said he did not want to post that anywhere... I'll keep trying locally for some vids or pics. Most of the local tennespeed forum guys were running today not Friday. I recommend a track day to any SRT'er.
...people are cheezy... If I saw a cool vehicle regardless of what it was you have to respect it. It wasn't like they were being passed by a stock Ford Festiva?
Jimmy sounds like a blast, have you considered a t-stat upgrade and working on the fans with the Diablo I know my latest tune from Inertia addressed my 180 t-stat and he set the fans to work with it and so far so good. I also took half of my Mopar red/orange radiator fluid out and replaced it with distilled water and that has helped alot.
Priceless Priceless!!!! Glad to hear you had a blast and impressed the hell outta those "Other" Car Guys. I had a similar experience at Infineon 9/7/05. The guys there with sportscars (Porsche Bimmer, Vettes....) did not want to get passed by a sedan either. But they did!!! Like you said, Run the SRT-8's at the road courses. They are AWESOME!!! BTW: I do have some options for you regarding running cooler. PM me.
