Yup - gotta do my licensing runs now. But no - I won't even pretend to be a "pro." LOL. I just got sick of Chrysler's computers screwing up my ability to race my 300. I'm still trying to beat the 10.89, but I'll probably back off soon and stay in the 12.00 class. Maybe just a little spray to get me there.
You have no idea how hard it is for me right now not to sell this car.....I think if someone approached with a good offer it would be gone in a heartbeat.
Congrats Matt....that has GOT TO BE a freaking blast to drive! I would love to be plastered to the back of the seat on runs in her.
Thanks Tony. Wanna come up here and teach me what the heck I'm doing? Wife just wouldn't go for a dragster. I couldn't convince her that IMO dragsters are safer (long wheelbase) simpler (no doors, windows, front shocks, blah blah blah) and easier to run than fast doorslammers. So I've wanted an old Camaro for 20 years. Bought this "Camaro" (using the term loosely, as it's a tube chassis car with viertually no original Camaro to be found). My first step is to learn. It's got a delay box set for 10.9, 9.9, or 8.9 already. I'll probably run SuperPro bracket races though (1/8th mile bracket on delay box). I'm not dumb enough to hop in this and try for an 8 second pass on the first run. We'll be throttle stopping it down for the learning phase. It's not perfect by a long shot. There's tons of little projects on it I can work on with my 14 year old son. But at the same time it's not a "project" car, as it's ready to race right now with no work. I'll polish the paint up a bit. Change to AFCO coilovers. Redo some plumbing and wiring over time. Freshen up the interior some. Lots of fun stuff to do - but nothing that's "needed" to go racing.
BTW: I used a drag racing calculator. The expected G-forces at launch are approximately 3 times the maximum G-forces of a typical SRT-8 at the launch. Forward acceleration of aroung 1.3 G's.
Here's a couple more pics. You can see the front hood, complete with pro-stock style intake cowl. An interior only a racer would love. Who says Chrysler interiors aren't plush enough? Complete tube chassis. No "Camaro" left.
Go to Jerry Bickle race craft .com Or some form of that. Buy there chassis book That should teach you enough to get the hang of the chassis. For the weight and et. It should hook and drive very well on any decently prepped track with minimal if any chassis adjustments. The tires are more then big enough to handle the HP(what ?? 900hp) As long as the chassis is built right from the begining. The IC won't need any changes. Just shock adjustments for differnet tracks. Start slow. it can get away from you in a hurry.
All excellent advise. It has a programmable throttle stop already set to run 10.90, 9.90, or 8.90. I intend to familiarize myself at 10.90 then move rapidly to 9.90. After that, we'll see how quickly I can progress. But king of like my nitrous exploits: You don't throw a 275 of 300 shot at it your first time down the track.
