Soooo since my local gas station just put up the sign that says $4.59/gallon...i am THINKING about a motorcycle...

i have never owned one...ridden on one...or even physically touched one for that matter haha.... so i am asking for opinions on....

    If i should get one...
    What one i should get...
    Would it be worth it?...

and FYI....i would only get a sport bike not a cruiser...i like the black one of these...

remember...i konw nothing about motorcycles haha...so only a little less than cars! daaaaaaaahahahaha :thongue2:

That was actually the bike I would recommend for beginners....

I myself am about to get a new GSX-R.

It is, no shit, cheaper for me to buy a BRAND NEW GSX-R and drive it then it is to keep gas in the truck.

Honestly, when people first break into the motorcycle scene, when they want a sport bike, I would recommend the Ninja 250. Looks good, but doesn't have the balls-out power that would overwhelm begginers....

steve - i have been riding various two wheeled set ups for over 20 years........ where do i start with answering a question like this.....

first and foremost, sign up for an actual training course. these usually last at least 3 days or longer. a MUST if you really are serious about this. take the course and you will actually learn how to operate a bike. you will also see if the idea of two wheels is something you can actually accept. many times the thought/fantasy of two wheels is great, but the reality of sitting on a bike, exposed to everything in traffic changes peoples minds.

if you do all this and still want to ride, then start with something used, cheap, and more of the "cruiser" style. i say this, because they are easier to ride, cheaper to maintain/fix when they go down, and are much cheaper to buy! spend a little time in the saddle of a bike like this and move up. the ninja 250 you linked is a good bike, but a little expensive for what it is, and once you get the hang of riding, you will hate the bike in a hurry due to size and lack of power. that is why i say buy a cheaper bike to beat around until you get comfortable, then move up. you are going to drop the bike on the ground at first, why do that to a nice bike with lots of platic fairings??? lol

bottom line, take the safety course, it is a MUST!!!!! good luck and keep the shiny side up!!! lol

Well don't tell him that, he'll be putting Nitrous on it. We need to keep Stevo around a little while longer. I still say a Vespa, but maybe with a Supercharger?

oh yeah that was a definite hahaha...

like i said...i know im stupid with em so i figured that would be in the plan....

I wouldnt be worried about me being upset with lack of power and such with the bike...its really just going to be used as a point a to point b sorta thing....if i want power...i get in the SRT lol....

How do I judge whats expensive and what's not?...i literally have no background at all with bikes so $3,500 for a new bike seems fine to me hahaha...im the jackass who will overpay cause i dont know WTF im doing haha

im not too worried about the whole in traffic thing...mainly cause where ill be taking it (to work and such) there is none haha....but we will see...

and like i said...$4.60 a gallon...with my cars being a 6.1L SRT and a 5.7L hemi ram with 50+ miles a day....yeah i would not be buying the bike cause i want it hahahaha

The Ninja 250R is a perfect bike to get for a first motorcycle. Too many people let their ego get in the way when buying their first bike.
Also make sure you take a motorcycle safety class. Remember when it comes to riding a motorcycle around a bunch of car drivers that are not paying attention, you can never be too safe.

steve - buy a used bike as your first bike. some dealers will not even sell you a bike unless you have a valid motorcycle license. NEVER say that you just want a slower bike because you don't need the power..... trust me, after you have ridden for a while, you will understand my comments! lol

3500 will buy you a VERY nice used bike. for you, i would recommend a suzuki boulavard 600 for a starter. you can get them for 1k - 1.5k and they are a very easy bike to ride, enough power to get you around without being overwhelming, and they are comfortable. sport bikes are great, i rode them for over 15 years, but if you are driving any decent distance, you will grow tired of their cramped riding positions. trust me on this one steve....... if a bike is just a means by which to get from a to b, then do not worry about anything other than a cheap bike with decent power and easy to ride.......
