This is the best deal I can find on the diablo sport tuner.
I want to make sure that this is the newest version. Also, am I correct in thinking this is the best tuner out right now?

What is everyone opinion of this tuner right now?
Can the dealer tell if I have had it installed it I return to stock?

$315 is a great deal, but if it doesn't come with the power supply and cable to hook-up to your PC then that's another $30-$40 dollars to get. To my knowledge the Predator is the only tuner available for the 6.1's still. I thought SCT was going to come out with a tuner for the 6.1's, but I don't think that has happened. The Predator is the way to go right now...trust me you'll be happy with it especially if you get someone to do a custom CMR tune with it. I've heard some people state that even if you flash the PCM back to stock that if a Tech looked hard enough that certain tables, etc. would show a change, but they would have to now where to look and it seems its highly unlikely they would ever go that far to see if you were running a tuner on the car. I've had my car in a few times to the dealer I never put it back to stock unless I know for sure they're going to flash something with the StarScan.

Got a wideband? That's worthwhile so you can tinker with it and I think you're going to want that information to dial in an email tune.

No problem...a custom tune will get you more power than with just the canned tunes that come with the Predator. It's also nice to get the A/F ratios perfect so you know your not going to hurt the motor by running lean.

Haha. Yea but it's the only way to go if you're going to be tweaking in the dark without a dyno. It's one of those things that you kind of want but it's kind of pricey and it's a pain if you install it yourself and once you get things just like you want them you really don't need it (until the next mod). Take Chris for example, custom paint job on the CAI but still no wideband...

Haha. Ok... It depends on what you want. Surely you want something acurate and most any quality gauge will do. One thing to note is that Autometer? uses their own proprietary sensor instead of the standard Bosch Lsusomething-or-other but they're the least expensive.

If you want the ultimate cool in displays and modularity go PLX www.plxdevices.com - a little pricey at about $400something
Probably the most integrated is the Innovate LC-1? Has the controller in the cable. They also have a new display gauge I think? XD-16 or something.

You'll need to get a wideband bung installed in front of your left cat. Muffler shop should be able to do it in the $50 something range.

Logging is a problem. Innovate has software and you can log to a PC. Most all wideband controllers have an analog out that can be hooked to a logger. The problem is integrated logging. Ideally you want the a/f to be logged (and later displayed) integrated with all the other logging you might be doing with the Predator or DashHawk. If you spend about $1000 on PLX modules you would have that very soon. I think they just came out with their OBDII module and then their almost released logging module will take inputs from up to 32 different modules. You can daisy chain PLX controllers and displays.

DiabloSport is *supposed* to be working with Innovate for integrated logging but that seems to have been stalled for a looong time. You ask Diablo and they say they're waiting on Innovate. Ask Innovate and they say they're waiting on Diablo. I'm thinking there's a pretty large gap in that solution.

DashHawk has the prototype hardware for their solution and is working on the firmware. Their "adaptor" will take the 0-5v analog output from anybody's controller. That would be the best (if it was here yet). You could buy the LC-1 without the display gauge (just the sensor/cable/controller), buy the DashHawk adaptor (Hawkeye), and use the DashHawk for both display and integrated logging.

The deal with logging is that both the Predator and DashHawk are plugged into the OBDII bus. The way they work is polling the PCM for values using the OBDII protocol. So you need some way of putting your wideband on the bus where it can be polled.

So for now you sort of check your a/f separately. I think, far and away, the Innovate is the most popular with the SRT8 crowd. Might only be me and RobAgd with PLX's. And before anyone brings it up, that comparison/shoot out on widebands done by Ford Muscle Magazine is crap (rather unscientific and only presents their subjective results)

I'm also going to buy the DashDaq, will it work for data logging the wideband?
do you have a link for the "Innovative" one?

Oooh, the DashDaq looks REALLY cool. And they take a 0-5v analog input (they specifically list the Innovate LC-1 and PLX as being supported. So you should be able to get the LC-1 without a gauge and use the DashDaq for display? and integrated logging? Crap, that's going to be sweet. Only thing I think might be missing from the DashDaq is the Chrysler specific PIDs (naturally they handle all the OBDII standard PIDs).

Here's the Innovate LC-1. I think more than one of our vendors carry them.

I'm sorry but, what is a PID? is it the same as DTC?

PID (Parameter ID). Some of the parameters would be Spark Advance, Knock Retard, IAT, ECT, etc., etc. There's like over a 100 of them? OBDII defines all the standard ones Like xxxx is the message code for IAT and the result is to be returned in degrees F. Then the OBDII protocol accomodates "user" defined ones. So Chrysler has one for current geat, target gear, trans oil temp (maybe that's a standard one?), yada, yada.

DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) are also defined by OBDII.

Ummm, think my test'n'tune track just opened up. I advanced a degree of timing in the low rpms with the Predator to see if I can get rid of the bog before I get to 3K. back in an hour if I don't go to jail.

Absolutely! No one else will talk to me...

Yes, pretty much everything you're going to be interested in for tuning (except the wideband). Predator will do one log and then overwrites it the next time you log. You can replay the log on the Predator. You can download the log to your PC and display it in graphical form (or animated gauges). You can watch it live on the Predator too (don't know how you could see it while driving but you can do it) and I believe you can display it live on a laptop? Look here:
    http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6073

Yep. I think the bung comes with the wideband or you can add it. Looks like spark plug threads that you weld in.

    LOL...I don't know why.

I'm just getting into tuning and am very green. So far, you have tought me everthing I know.
I have associates degrees in chassis fabrication and high performance engines/ and automotive technology. The school I went to (WYOTECH) did not have tuning as a course. Thanks for the education.
Hopefully I have the the background and knowledge to really get in to tuning.
