What do/should I know about when doing both. I'm going to be installing a 180* T-stat and BWoody Intake Manifold spacers. Any tricks and tips? How many ft lbs or inch lbs to bolt the intake down to? All the info I could get from you guys would be great!!!! Thanks
Here is all you need to know about the T-stat (from Meister). I think I'm the only one who chucked my tstat in a drill and very carefully turned about .3mm diameter off it spinning it against a file. Don't know anything about installing the spacers other than you need to torque it down very evenly. Like taking a only a couple of turns on each bolt and then just keep going around the manifold until it's torqued. There's some tips for making it easier to lay the heads on the gasket without scrunching it too. There is an installation video or pics on the whole thing. I just don't know where it is.
I took my dremmel with a sanding bit and CAREFULLY sanded around the edge of the new T-Stat, test fitted, went back to sand some more CAREFULLY and so on until it fit, I only made one pass at a time on the sanding to make sure I did not take off too much. Be sure the DOG EAR is at the top when installing and here is a GREAT install how to: http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1985 AWLWAYS CHECK THE HOW TO SECTION THERE IS USUALLY DETAIL INFO THERE FOR MOST MODS Dont forget to put either DISTILLED water or Mopar red coolant in the overflow tank to make up for what you lost during the install, never use tap water
You MIGHT be able to shoe horn it in but I never could and there is a chance of it leaking if the orange gasket does not go back in right, just sand down a little and test fit until it is snug in there just look how it sits in there stock and make sure that is how it looks with the new t-stat, again dog ear at top is very important
I think dozens of people have wedged them in with no problems. You and I might be the only two who have ever taken them down a bit. You just have to use a flathead screwdriver or something and carefully tuck the gasket in when installing with the tighter one. I wanted to make sure I kept mine perfectly round so I chucked it in a drill and slowly spun it against a file. Here's another tip... They say to be careful to not drop the bolts when removing them. I don't have a magnetic insert for my sockets so I was real careful removing them and putting them down where they wouldn't fall in. Then I dropped the FRIGGIN GASKET down there! That was traumatic. You can go anywhere and get a bolt. You're more than likely going to have to order a stock t-stat to get a gasket. Fortunately I was able to jack up the right corner, turn the wheel all the way over and feel around the belly pan with my left hand and found it. I think maybe the Jets come with a gasket but everybody thinks the Motorads are better and nobody has had a problem re-using the stock gasket.
Ok, now I'm confused. I know this is the Jeep forum but aren't all our 6.1 motors the same?? Then the Jet tstat IS AN EXACT FIT, I know, I've put it in my car in about 10 minutes WITHOUT any problems. Fits perfect and comes with it's own gasket too, makes it real easy. It's more expensive than the Motorad one but I was under the impression the Motorad one is the one that's not an exact fit (see Quicks post), plus it doesn't come with a new gasket. Also the Jet has Motorad stamped right on it and over the last say, 6 months maybe I've recommended it to many, many members on the OC and no one has ever had a problem. So what gives??
Yea, that's the Motorad in the link, 4128/7, and just like I've read and what Quick says and you said too it's a little too big. There's only one Jet tstat for our cars and it's a 180 (actually I think it's closer to 185) and it's an exact fit. If the Jeeps are the same as the LXs and if that's what F8LSRT ordered then he's not gonna have any probs on the install. Imo.
He needs something to worry about. It heightens the sense of satisfaction after completing the job. The T-stat is a very low worry job. We had to manufacture something :erm:. (besides, I didn't know the Jet's were smaller)
No, you just wanted to mess with it!! I remember reading that thread a while back, everyone told you not to put it in a vice and grind away at it but you did anyway ... and loved every minute of it didn't you!! Admit it, you did!! It's ok tho, stuff like that is what makes you the brains of the outfit around here and why I call you Mr. Wizard, lol!
