How fast will $15,000 make me?

I've largely ignored the LX aftermarket for the last year, because a year ago it just wasn't worth the money. Now that CMR tunes are available, my question is, just how fast can I make my SRT-8 for $10,000 or $15,000? I'm considering selling my SRT-4, which currently traps 117mph, maybe higher now that I've fixed the boost problems, and if I do sell it I'd put most of that money into the SRT-8... but I don't want to drop that kind of money into the 6.1L and find it running low 12's at 115mph, that would be worthless to me. I want to trap 120mph without nitrous, so are there enough parts out there for the 6.1L right now to get it done for $10-15k?

    Ported/polished intake manifold
    CNC heads
    LT headers and hi-flo cats
    Cam
    90mm throttle body
    catback (I have a Zoomers)
CAI (I have the Mopar CAI)
    CMR tune

Now that's a generic list, but is all that enough today to get me a 120mph trap speed? I see lots of people running mid-12's at 110mph, but I could care less about ETs, I can run 109mph all day on my virtually stock motor. ETs are a good indication of both the available traction and the skill of the driver, but the trap speeds are what tell you how much power you're effectively making, so what's it gonna take to hit 120mph+ for $10-15k?

I want my SRT-8 to be a solid daily driver, and still be able to rip off 120mph in full street trim, run what you brung, and I am not the type to brung some DR's every time I want to romp... ;)

Forgive me if I'm extra blunt at the moment, it's 4am, I'm tired, and still running on vodka/redbull fumes, but I've got a hair up my @$$ and I'm curious about letting my SRT-4 go to push that money into the SRT-8... thanks in advance ladies/gents.

15k on an SRT8 should put you comfortably in the 11's.

Whether or not you trap 120+'s would depend on adding something else to that mod list. At 4200lbs plus, it is what it is. With your list there, you 'can' get into the 11's on DR's. HHP has done it a couple times on PhillyJohn's car and Mao P's....

15K will get you where you want to be...... just depends on how you want to get there. throw tons of juice at it and go fast at specific times for not toooo much money, or build it big and go fast all the time but with more money involved than just juice, or go forced induction and go fast whenever you want to!

yes, i would agree kayce if you want to run more than 6 -7 lbs of boost. you could run the new i-charger with low boost and not HAVE to rework the bottom end to forged. 500+rwhp should be enough to push us to 120 traps!!!! i will let you know hopefully in the near future how that works!!! hehehehehe

could you just get half shafts...drag radials and good nitrous system (if thats what you wanted) and get to the low 12's for like $4000? lol...getting to 11's probably wouldn't take too much more effort

since you dont want DR's you can just get some real good Street tires (wide ones too...maybe widen the wheels?)...and then something like the Stage 2 Package from HHP or something similar?

maybe adding the 90mm TB and the Big Airhammer to go with it?

then the headers and HF Cats would be good stuff

thats what i think (cause im the performance guy here and all :rofl2:)

Thanks for the advice gents, I guess the better question is, is anyone running 120mph+ traps right now with an NA 6.1L? The reason I ask about trap speeds is because I don't race at the track that much. Yell at me if you want, but I race on deserted roads with my friends after most of the world has gone to bed, and what I really want to know is that my SRT-8 would be able to be my SRT-4 for $15,000 or less. I'm not averse to a supercharger, but I'd prefer to keep it all motor at least for the time being.

What about a PPP 426 with a big cam and a CMR tune?

I plan to get the LSD and some coilovers and swaybars too, and maybe some pedders bushings, so I want a well-balanced car overall.

I mean, I'm only asking for another 11mph in the traps here... =]

I believe DVSSRT8's HHP Stage II Package on DR's ran an 11.7+ at 118+, but no 120's, and that's a totally stock block NA Motor run. Check out HHP's site for more info and I also believe his video's are here.

Hmm, 118+ is not bad, that's just the HHP Stage II package? No LT headers, CMR tune, etc. etc.?

Sorry, yes Kooks longtubes and a CMR tune. The tunes are included in the package I believe. At least a tune that gets you right in the field.

    Going Fast

The I-Charger and a set of heads, and intake & exhaust. You'll have instant power, anytime you want. I'd go big on the rear tires, traction will become the issue.

I have seen the PPP car run an 11.08 with their 426 N/A.

I would say call them up and see what information they can give you

If you want to feel completely comfortable with this....I would add half shafts and LSD. With installation that will suck about $5,000 from your budget (maybe around 4k if you get a deal), but you feel more confident off the line.
