For what it's worth to anyone out there. If I knew then what I knew now, the kit I just "quoted" is exactly what I'd buy. I'd add a wideband gauge and a nitrous pressure gauge, a bottle warmer and run exactly this package. In fact, I've changed so much of my original ZEX kit, that I'm practically running that package now. It just cost me a lot more to get there.

I added two options for bottle warmers.

Sounds like a good addition to a supercharger. Hook that bad boy up.

I removed my ZEX bits to install NX bits, FWIW. The only thing still on my car from ZEX is the fuel line adapter.

I will be using the bottle from the ZEX kit only as my second bottle, otherwise it will be 100% NX.

I know the zex solenoids are pretty week and get stuck easily. I would love to hear Jmatts reasons as well, so feel free to post your answer here Matt.

Well - my ZEX solenoids locked up regularly. Even if my nitrous pressure read 975, the nitrous solenoid would get stuck and wouldn't fire. You can tell when that happens, because the fuel solenoid fires, and you bog down pig rich. I spent way too much time prepping for any given race day, or even any particular run, only to waste it on a locked up solenoid.

This weekend was the final straw. 1st pass the ZEX fired on and off randomly down the track. Second the nitrous was locked up, but the gas fired. 3rd pass nothing worked at all.

So I completely disassembled the box to see what was there:

A pair of the smallest solenoids that exist. The nitrous solenoid is labelled "1200 psi" but mine would never fire much over 950 psi.

There are some nice touches. ZEX includes a filter on both the nitrous and fuel solenoids. It's not a bad kit at all. For beginners or occassional users it's probably fine.

But I will no longer rely on it at the track.

EDIT: Another point. A lot of what I learn is because I'm not afraid to make phone calls to manufacturers and try to get the right guy on the line. When you call NX, you get someone on the line who knows what he's talking about, no matter who answers the phone. At ZEX, you hold for 10 minutes, and then are pretty much guaranteed you'll talk to someone who has no clue.

Good post. Now I know why Zex recomends a lower bottle pressure than everyone else.

Let me see if i understand this correctly. Somebody had NX solenoids installed on their car and decided to upgrade the NX solenoids. So you bought the NX solenoids from him and upgraded your Zex solenoids with the NX ones. If thats correct then the solenoids he put on must be the best ones.

Wonder what brand they were?

O yea and for the record I also have an NX kit in my garage.

    The NX solenoids are purtier.

And gee......I wonder who's solenoids someone used. You wouldn't know, would you?

Considering the fastest car in the country is running NX solenoids, the term "best" could refer to NX. Everyone has a different opinion on what they feel is the best system, I happen to like NX myself otherwise we would be carrying other brands.

Sorry Andy I was just trying to have a little fun with JMatt. As fas as the "Best" stuff I agree with you..its a matter of opinion.

NX does have great stuff. As I said earlier I have purchased their stuff in the past.

Now back to Jmatt bashing.......I'll start another thread.. i'm sure others might want to join in lol

A follow up on why I no longer trust ZEX (and a warning to others):

They kindly provide a resistor wire to go between the ZEX box and the TPS. Apparently, without it the ZEX box was throwing codes.

    So here's the problem:

The resistor wire is skinny and weak. Let's just pretend that over time the tiny little resistor wire breaks. Of course, you have no way to visually see this. Your ZEX will just stop working. Why? Because it only ever sees zero volts.

So - when trouble shooting, you hold open the throttle blade to set the throttle position sensing switch. Unknown to you, the ZEX box is still seeing ZERO volts. But, you program anyway. All you have to go on is a button and a blinking light.

Guess what - that @#$#@$% ZEX box will go ahead and program itself to believe ZERO volts is WOT. So - you turn on your arming switch, and you have a fuel pressure switch (reporting zero volts because the car's not running), and you have an RPM window switch (reporting zero volts because you're idling down at 700 RPM), and you have a TPS (reporting zero volts because of the shorted wire).

Guess what? The ZEX box will now fire. If you're lucky, the car will have been off, and all you will do is freeze your intake tube. But if your car was on and idling when you flipped the arming switch, guess what happens.

Anyone care to guess how I know?
