Here is a picture of my remote oil filter kit. I use the larger WIX-51515R oil filter. The kit uses #10 braided oil line to a Setrab oil cooler mounted at the lower grille opening. The system provides me with easy access to removing the filter during oil changes and the oil temps dont get much over 205deg even during the most spirited driving.
Heh, it looks even better in an upright pic:thumb: So I've seen cooler units with 2 cores in the housing so you can do engine oil and trans fluid through the same radiator. The question is, with the engine off, would an electric pump circulate the transmission fluid? I suppose the ideal setup for the track would be the trans cooler either in front of or behind the fans with electric pumps for engine coolant and trans fluid. Might take an extra battery to run the fans and pumps but you could probably have everything cold in no time for the next run. Surely all that's been done before?
Can you provide some more details around what sandwich oil adaptor you used to connect to the original filter location and how you mounted the cooler to the bumper? Any more pictures you can provide? I have been looking at the GSM kit for some time now but I heard there are some clearance issues with sandwich oil adaptor. In addition, what are the benefits/negatives to remote mounting the filter? During a 2 hour drive home this weekend running at a high rate of speed, my oil temps were running around 259-265. I have seen them as high as 280! This would be a good thing to get I am sure.
WOW!!!! I never see more than 205......maybe 208deg. We have an oil cooler kit that fits nicely but the front grille comes off to install it. The remote oil filter is some thing new we just tried out and it works nicely and will add it to our future kit.
I actually wound up doing two oil coolers to get temps under control at the track. 280+ temps are not unusual, unfortunately, even with a bigass 57,000 btu/hr, 25-row cooler. Mobil1 is good to 310 according to an SRT engineer who commented on my setup ... but who wants to go there? There may or may not be issues with the sandwich adapter depending on the elbow fittings used. There is a crossmember right there and you can run out of room. I had to tap the sandwich adapter deeper to get the elbow fittings to clear back when I had only one oil cooler on, but with the Mopar cooler sandwiched in between the sandwich, clearance issues disappeared. Two coolers and the Maximum Duty radiator dropped oil temps into the 190's during road course driving. I was going to do a remote mount and a bigger filter like was shown here but the two coolers stacked up perfectly on one another so I didn't want to mess with it anymore han I had to.
