Help me? Technically, I got to figure part of it is my camera sucks and then I guess I don't have a clue about lighting. I'll leave composure for later if I ever get to that. If it's just hopeless you can say so, I'll understand. (how come I can NEVER get my wheels to look like they do with the camera?)

Thanks, but they kind of suck. I think the ones in the shade are a little better maybe. Maybe that's the problem, don't take pics in direct sunlight or have a bright sky in the background? and the wheels, they almost look white. They never look like what they do with the eye. Maybe it's time for a camera upgrade. I've been thinking about that.

Yea, your's look great. I'll try out the "ground perspective". Looks like the sun from the side at the Rose Bowl was better too (maybe it's just the Pasadena haze that smooths the lighting )

One thing I can tell you about pics...MP dont stand a chance against shutter speed.
Just cause a camera has 15 mp dosent mean it takes good pics. But your pics are not bad. I love your car, I must say.

It might be part of my problem though. I have an antique 3MP camera.

    Dave:

I am glad you posted this because I have the exact same problem. Maybe I can learn here too. I can't take a picture of my car that looks good to save my life. I do have a good camera but I will admit that I do not know how to use it. I pretty much just have to use the standard modes that it offers becuase I do not know how to make the manual adjustments (too lazy to read the manual). I am not sure if that is my problem or not though.

I saw a show on Speed TV last week (forget which show though) and they were talking to a guy who take photos of automobiles for a living. He said that by far black was the hardest car color to photograph and that red could be challenging at times. Two tips that I can remember from that guy for black cars were: 1.) Never shoot the black car where direct sunlight was hitting the car and 2.) It is better to use the biggest telephoto lens you have and shoot close up pictures from a longer distance than to use smaller wide angle lenses. He aslo suggested taking pictures of cars from all kinds of unusual angles (like down low aimed up or vice versa), tilting the camera and stuff like that to make them more interesting. He also said to fill up the frame with as much of the car as possible.

Try shooting early morning or just before dusk.. More car less backdrop.

This was low angle, early morning, sun behind the car from about 40' with a Canon Elf 4 MP.

The photog who took these pictures was laying on the ground about 60 yds from my car. It was very late afternoon, almost dusk. Very long lens.

Same model about 4 hours earlier. She's much fresher, but notice the difference in light and shadows.

Geez Dave those pix are sweet, don't know what you're complaining about, you should see mine! Lol. I especially like 1,3 and 6. I've taken quite a few good pix of my Mustang over the years (none digital tho) and all I would suggest is to have less background/more car in the pic, and be sure to center your car. One other thing that looks good sometimes is to turn the front wheels. Also like Lou said, try a ground level shot, I'm not a fan of them but sometimes they do look good. Personally I think just by having less background those pix of your would be perfect! And if all else fails, add a hot chick, they make any car look good!!

BTW, that's Vasona??? Let me know next time you do something like that so I can tag along and maybe get you to snap a few of mine too!

Now we're talkin. Car out of sunlight, telephoto lens... crap, all I got is one of those telephoto adaptor type lenses. I'll try that too. ground shots and MORE CAR (hmmm, I could crop those).

Best light early morning or dusk. Now that you mention that I vaguely recall that from somewhere in my past... I think about 10 years ago we had a family pic taken outdoors and the photographer said that. Crap, that's kind of restrictive. Shopping list for when I ever get a new camera -- telephoto lens, teeny tiny tripod, Hal's model.

Less background. I've decided to devote the rest of my life to stalking Hal's model. Vasona. It's always a spur of the moment thing. Just ring your cell next time?
