    Well - let's see....

People put in Quaiffe's and start breaking halfshafts.

I have a 1.63 second 60' time already this spring, and I haven't hit a track yet this spring with warm enough temps to get any good traction.

I do 2-wheel burnouts every single time at the track. You just have to take care to make sure they both start spinning.

Dunno what a Quaiffe costs, but AFCO rears are $1089 and do so much more than just provide traction. Traction is just one of many benefits.

Of course my bias is known, so take my opinion for what it's worth.

    I think a Quaife runs around $1,200.

Interesting point though about the half shafts. Theoretically the Quaife shouldn't effect it unless it's transferring torque abruptly. That may be part of it but the old guy broke a half shaft without it. Wheel hop could have the same effect. The instantaneous torque to break traction can be much greater if applied more quickly. If your wheel is on it's way down from a hop it's going to be abrupt AND you're going to have a lot more traction for an instant.
The AFCO does not transfer any torque from one side to the other and should eliminate or greatly reduce wheel hop. So much better but I got to believe you're on the edge with your half shafts.

Actually - I have upgraded halfshafts regardless. But wheel hop and wheel shake are 100% eliminated. Also, you can preload one side of the car or the other appropriately to help spread traction to both wheels as needed. For example, the passenger wheel seems to spin more easily, so you shift weight to that tire and off the driver's tire until the bias is more even.

My only real point is, I have the 2nd quickest 60' time ever recorded, and that was with the stock differential and the stock torque converter.
