Since I MAY be getting a new Charger SRT8 im kind of peeved that it has no LSD and from reading up on what it does IMHO its a must, what do you guys think? Pros? Cons? So the question is to Quaife or not to Quaife?
Quaife. You don't have LSD. You will be able to launch harder with LSD. Without LSD you're wasting a good bit of available traction. You will have a heavily Zaino'd, badass looking car and then... a one legged burnout. You will be embarrassed.
There's a lot I would do before I put the in Quaife. I didn't break a halfshaft till after the Quaife was installed. Then I did break 2 halfshafts in a row. 2nd one broke on it's 1st launch. Yeah, I'd do it eventually, but not right away.
Hal do you recommend the stronger halfshafts with the new quaife? And will this put added pressure on the differential case? Steve I know you want me to go for it! :thanks:
If you are going to run DR's, yes. I didn't break a halfshaft till I had a converter, Quaife, and DR's. Deadly cocktail. I was running 1.75 60's with stock converter, stock rear, and 305/45-18 DR's.
Thanks Hal, looks like I will get the quaife first and when I get into heavy modding, if I do ill get the upgraded halfshafts.
I've read that these cars can get squirrely in the rear with the Quaife and ESP off. Anyone dispute that claim? Is it a lot harder to keep the rear of the car in place once you put a LSD in? Eric
Don't waste your money......there are other options on their way.I never liked the Quaife myself and IMO it's not worth the money.
Bah, spend your money elsewhere Tony...unless you plan on doing some road racing and bolstering your suspension. If it's dragracing, JMatt's Afco suspension looks like the real deal.
Since i have had a 06 srt-8 magnum and now have a srt-8 jeep i would never go back to the lx cars unless the srt-8 leaves jeep and then i would get the challenger at least it has posi.
Well, yes, sort of, generally speaking. Without LSD you will spin 1 wheel. The other wheel will have less to no torque applied to it but will still have lateral traction since it won't be spinning. You are not likely to get squirrely. Let's say this configuration gives you acceleration X. With LSD, torque will be applied to both wheels. Assuming you have close to the same traction at both wheels, you will be able to achieve some acceleration Y that is greater than X without either wheel spinning. If you exceed the torque required for acceleration Y, with LSD, then both wheels will spin. You are likely to get squirrely with both wheels spinning; but you would be able to accelerate faster before you got to that point with the LSD than without it. :clap:thank you, thank you:clap: <-------just had my coffee
