    No, Larry. I was RIGHT.
    Ron said "Jet Coated".
I corrected him with "Jet-Hot Coated"...which IS the proper name.

    And.....
My Jet-Hot Coated OEM exhaust manifolds now top out at about 325-350F.
The jacketing on the OEM starter cable *should* be able to handle that with ease. 400F is a reasonable tolerance for cable jacketing.

CERAMIC coated headers will run MUCH hotter than those that have been Jet-Hot coated.
CERAMIC coated will be closer to 500F, which would make it easy for a 400F jacket to fail.

I stand corrected Kevin....but the whole purpose of this thread was to warn of a potential problem..If you have Bassanis or any shorty header you may want to check your starter wiring...and maybe other areas under the hood...:tip:

Here is the thing with the ceramic coatings. Less Heat radiation

It retains the heat inside the tube. (no kidding) It also allows you to have things much closer without the affect of heat. (again,, no kidding)

What your getting is less need for "air space insulation" between things. If you gauge your header temp with a IR gun your not reading actual temp of the tube. IR guns don't read very well on reflective surfaces. The physical temp of the tube will be 1000* but radiate 300* allowing close proximity of wires and such.
If you have a starter, say 1/4 inch away. It's going to get really hot simply because it's to close. The best coating isn't going to help much.

My temp readings were taken from the manifold bolt heads at cylinders 1, 5, 9, and 2, 6, 10...then averaged.

    BEFORE Jet-Hot Coating: 625F
    AFTER Jet-Hot Coating: 350F

this was a major issue for any guy who ran an LS1 with LTH. the starter wire would get burnt straight through and blow a fuse each time you tried to start the car. basically, it just shows that the installer didnt know enough to get the damn wire out of the way.

i had my 01 SS break down on me when i was driving it through lousiana. freaked me the hell out until i had it towed to a FORD dealership where a really cool dude found the issue and was able to wrap it and get the cable stored away from the LTH.

WOW imagine if you had not gone in for work or had a "It's not my problem" exhaust guy buy that man a beer. Glad it was caught in time so are you going to fix the wires or are they okay.
