Alright, due to being impatient, I installed my tune prior to checking for updates. My born on date is 3/11/08 and my rev is 9r02.

Then I went & checked (checked only - didn't download or update the pred) for updates.

9r03 is out but appears to be for 5.7L motors only.
9r04 is out but have no real idea what it's for (appears to be menu freeze related).

So basically, my car is running great, everything seems to be working fine, do I really need to do the updates? My brain tells me "no" but my mouse hand says "click away" !!!

What do y'all Diablo experts recommend?

Also, fwiw, I downloaded the 91 perf tune, current mods: magnaflow catback & an afe2. A 180* t-stat will be getting installed in the morning as I was too busy tearing it up this afternoon.:yahoo:

True dat. In fact, the instructions tell you to run the most current update and these are the most reliable. I'm still running 16 from way back when lol....never a hiccup.

I'm on 8r20. I've sort of been following the updates. The 9r0x's mainly had changes for the Jeeps and the most recent ones for the 5.7's. You should be fine with what you have but Mike will tell you if there have been any changes that could effect you.

I think the perf tunes (at least in 8r20 and I don't think it's changed) come with the fans set for a stock thermostat so you may want to change those. I set the low speeds to 192* and the mid & high speeds to 201*. Probably a bit higher than most do. It runs up to 194 in traffic but I figure maybe it flashes some of the liquids off the oil and I know my fans don't run all the time. That thermostat should be opening at 185*.

Something ain't right there Curtis. You sure you don't have a 176* t-stat? (or did you mean to type 188 degrees)

    cool thanks guys!

all I know is that the 1st/2nd shift is now like a kick in the ass:pelvicsmilieys: the car is pulling very hard on the latter half of the rpm band. I'm going to install my t-stat today, change the fan settings and call it a day. If something happens after that, it'll be addressed then, otherwise I'm not going to f* with the Diablo updating.

I don't know... it's a bit of a personal thing. If it were me I'd leave them where they're at? Maybe drop them a couple degrees?

-- I think that HAL starts pulling timing at 190*? Never heard anything definitive on this but that's the number people throw out there. I haven't seen any details like how much? and how much more as the temp goes up? Still interested in that.

There are a couple of tradeoffs to just "lower is better".

-- HAL is going to complain if the temp either never gets above ~176* or stays under it too long after startup?

-- You sort of need to flash stuff off the oil. Condensation moisture, and whatever else. General feeling is you need to go up over 190* to do that. Couple of people have said maybe you should do that every couple of weeks? It's probably not a critical thing.

-- Comfort. Not a problem here but you need your heater to work in the winter...

You should be fine on 9r02, no real need to update now.

    Thanks
