Sorry to say but that guy isnt a good mechanic, hes a ghetto mechanic. I have done both, heating and cutting. None of the times I did it, was I an favor of it, but the circumstances made it the only thing possible. I would never recommend either of them on our Jeeps, only because there is no suspension travel, stock from the factory. This being the reason Eibach hasnt released their kit yet, its nearly impossible to do to it right, even with the shorter springs. Here is what I will tell you, heating springs is the dumbest thing ever. The only reason you ever heat a coil, is for a ghetto car that you just want to slam and you dont care about the ride. Understanding a spring is more difficult than meets the eye so I am not going to explain that, but I can say that when you heat them there is no possible way to heat the coil evenly so the spring compresses straight. Most generally the springs will "pop" and you will end up with a whole bunch of coil bind. To sum it up, heating is NEVER a good choice, the average person will get it no where near perfect, so unless your a good fabricator I would say dont ever attempt it. Now we will talk about cutting springs, yes it is dumb as well, as most springs now days are progressive springs and by cutting them you completely fuck that up. But I will say cutting is by far better than heating. On a normal car cutting is acceptable because you have a lot of travel to start out with, the Jeeps dont and that is where that problem lies. Bascially there is no way to lower the jeep unless you get a full coil over kit, even if Eibach ever releases their kit, it is going to be far from perfect.....

We used to do that when we were running moonshine. Made the springs so dam stiff it rode at the same height with or without a full load in the back (dead giveaway if the back end was dragging). Car cornered better too!:yahoo:
