Does anyone know the 6.1 fuel pump output. The parts manual shows it as a different part # and price than the 5.7 fuel pump but I keep getting told it is the same pump. Any info would be greatly aprreciated
6.1 pump =179 Liters an hour @59 PSI Small compared to a Walbro 255 EP ,which will slide right in. One of the saving graces in the SRT line is the PCM is programmed to actually slew the fuel injector pulse width to prevent a standing pressure wave in the fuel rails. Hope this helps (I got your PM BTW) J
Jeff...where can I get a Walbro pump and is there any mods that have to be done to install it other than swapping out pumps?
My fuel pressure guage stays between 59.8 and 61 lbs. I've had a 255 Walbro in my Z28 for years. Is there a Walbro kit for our cars? I'm going to need one. I'd rather spend the money on the Walbro than a Boostapump.
Which Walbro 255 was it they make a bunch. We carry 255's to fit Mustangs, not sure if this is what you used. http://www.bmcspeedshop.com/product_p/cpr-1008023.htm
Its real hard to get the old one out without breaking the tabs that hold it in but I guess if you did you could strap it in there somehow.
Here is the Walbro pump I used (GSS 342). Direct replacement (once you get the old one out). Now I just need to figure out how I want to modify the bucket to get a second pump in there.
How did you get it into the basket without breaking the tabs that hold it in, or should I say get the old one out without breaking the tabs
I don't know how Roy did it, but the service manual mentions special tool #9340 to get the basket out.
I had some trouble getting the old one out because of the tabs (I didn't have the special tool). It was easier once I cut off the round piece as shown here: Once those are gone you can separate the tabs easier and slide the pump up and out. I used 3 flat tip screwdrivers to move the tabs out of the way. I also had the luxury of having an extra bucket assembly to tear apart, study, and practice all this on.
I would like to see that also. When we tried it we broke the tabs and the Summit 255 seemed to be a touch shorter than the factory pump
The other problem I see is the other 2 port look blocked off with no way to hook up the hoses. Those are needed for tank to tank return and siphon.
