you know all this talk about zo6s made me investigate and think about sumthin..i seen a couple 06 zo6s online selling from low to mid forties with less than 30k miles on em..im about to pull the trigger on heads, cam, long tubes, new exhaust, and some cutouts which might get me to the mid to low 11's on the spray..or i can take the money that was for the mods (7K at least)and throw it down on the z06 and be running mid to low tens on the spray(with alot of practice shifting)..i just dont know, i really love my big sled and all its room, but man thats a hell of a bargain for that kind of performance!!

and i didnt know this either!

    505 horsepower @ 6200 rpm
    475 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4800 rpm
    7000-rpm redline
Unique engine block with larger 104.8-mm (4.125-inch) bores and pressed-in cylinder liners
Forged steel crankshaft with 101.6-mm (4-inch) stroke
    Titanium connecting rods
    Cast aluminum flat-top pistons
Racing-derived CNC-ported aluminum cylinder heads with titanium intake valves and sodium-filled exhaust valves
    Dry-sump oiling system
    11.0:1 compression ratio
    Camshaft with 15-mm (.591-inch) lift
Hydroformed exhaust headers with unique "quad flow" collector flanges

oh yea not to mention there all hand built!truely amazing to be a mass produced engine!

make the switch see if any one misses ya. hahahaha dude if i could get in a z06 I would but you got to think about your insurance going up, your not in a safe of a car any more, you only have 2 doors and no back seat. there are pro's and cons my friend. plus the 8your Ls wouldnt work as a name any more hahahaha. for that price get a used 2006 viper man, save 30k and get Under ground racing twin turbos and your in the 9s on street tires

    Wise man speaks :usflag:

Only thing Id change is I wouldnt buy a Gen3+ viper (SRTs) if your planning on going forced induction buy a GTS of some kind beautiful car (pre 2000) forged internals and one hell of a power making machine once you dive into it. Low 12s with a good driver high 11s with a great drive bone stock. On top of that your not in a dime a dozen car like the Z06 lol.

I would just rather have a viper than a vett. most people cant evn tell the dif between a z06 and a regular ls3. MOST PEOPLE that doesnt include car people. but let me tell you what everyone knows what a viper is. if i had to pick one or the other it would be the viper hands down. I do think the vett is better for daily driving though. what your insurance price for the year I am 22 almost23 and its fucking crazy for me almost 10k a year. I pay more than 2x what my car payments are on insurance and gas a month.

Your paying more for something remember that. As already stated Viper is more exclusive you'll be getting a convertible instead of a coupe, a true performance car. Etc etc.

Like I said you should buy a Gen 2 of some kind looks are incredible, fun to drive, extremely strong motor. And you can pick one up for 30-50 depending on which year/color you buy.

But a Gen 2 has its down falls (if you can call it that) it rides alot more rough and tough more like an older muscle car when compared to the new Gen 3s or Z06.

If you dont care about driving a car that looks like every other corvette out there buy the Z06 its a great performer for the price. But you'll have to deal with the "corvette wave" lol.

I would say a viper hands down. I looked at on 2004 Viper put the seller couldn't work with me. Im 24 and I only pay $103 a month for my 2006 300 SRT8, 95 Lincoln Mark 8, and a 2001 Honda CBR. And thats full coverage on all. I think you guys should shop around for some better rates.

Here's my opinion and you may not like it. I speak as someone that has gone through the whole 'toy' thing and wasted a ton, and I mean a TON of cash when I was younger. Bear with me as I just took my narcotics so I may get all crazy and go off on tangents or make absolutely no sense in a minute.

I did alot of things at you age just for the coolness factor. I must have been on my 4th or 5th 'project' at your age. That was a Jeep Wrangler sitting on 48" tires motivated by a big bored BB 10-71 huffed animal of a motor. That thing would roast all 4 easily. Sure it was real cool and got's lots of stares/looks ( cops seemed to really take an interest in it) but in reality it was in no way a practical thing to have as a so-called commuter. I was young and I didn't know any better at the time. In the end I just got hassled by the po-po and ended up getting out of it for pennies on the dollar. I know this doesn't really relate to your thread much but I just wanted to say I've been there looking for something sweet and cool to drive around.

    Fast forward to now.....

I have an 3SRT and a Z06 so I can appreciate both platforms. I have a real close friend who has a Viper too. The viper sure looks cool and all but to me there is no practicality to it at all. I may be jaded due to me being rather tall and having broad shoulders. I have a horibble time getting in and out of it. Once I'm in it I can't freakin turn the steering wheel hardly at all...then when you add shifting to the mix it's just a horible experience for me. It's freakin hot inside....noisy....rides rough compared to my car and probably any number of other things. Sure it's a sweet car and all and maybe for the average person it would be much more driver friendly.

Now my car I can do anything I want with it. Drive it to work everyday......even take customers out to lunch in it (as long as it's only one at a time). Sure it's probably just as low as the Viper but I can get in the freakin thing and drive it like I stole it.

I think one thing you should keep in mind unless you have unlimited funds (which it doesn't really sound like since you're shopping insurance rates) is that cars these days are as expensive as houses in some states. You're making a huge investment. Now if you plan to mod it afterwards....my god, I can only imagine what parts cost for the Viper compared to the Vette. Sure, when you buy GM parts and have a "vette you pay a premium compared to someone with maybe a Camaro or something but what's it like with a Viper.

Like I said, Vipers are definately sweet cars (I'd have an ACR if I could freakin drive the damn thing) but Z06s look sweet too. Who cares if a dozen other Corvettes drive up next to you on the way to work. At least you can use it to drive to work and, afterall, it still is a Z06. IMO, there probably isn't a better bang for the buck in that class of vehicle. Like I said on the other site. damn amazing machine out of the box. Sink a few grand into it and man you got a nice ride.

I don't know what you want to call this post.....maybe a word of caution. I've been there done that to have fun and it cost me tremendously even though I had close friends help me with a good amount of the mods.

Have fun with whatever you do....you only live once!

I can agree that the Z06 will make an all around more friendly car to drive on a daily basis, but your complaints I have never noticed and Ive driven/rode in all generations of the Viper. As stated before the early gen vipers are more muscle car than luxury and yes the ride is rough and tough but people like myself enjoy that. Hot inside? I live in Arizona and not once even noticed lol with the AC on its just like any other car. Noisy well... Im biased I like hearing the sound of the engine so noise really doesnt bother me.

Now my opinion is find someone with both and talk them into giving you a ride and see what you like best.

    Just to break it down:

Mod- Viper hands down (the Ls7 isnt even close to any of the vipers in potential)

Daily Driver- Unless your like me or the viper owners out there that enjoy a slightly rough and tough ride the Z06 wins in this department hands down.

Track- Once again no question a Viper. I dont care what any mag racer thinks and says the Viper handles better, brakes better etc etc a good driver in both and I gaurentee the viper will come out on top. (This is Pre 08 SRTs)

Exclusivity- Once again hands down goes to the Viper any gen Viper.

But then again Im biased... And no personally I dont think the Z06 is a nicer ride the seats are horrible in the Z06 while the bolstered seats in the Viper provide more back and horrizontal support. Z06 has by far more creature comforts and is ALOT more forgiving the lack of traction/stability control in the Viper makes it a VERY unforgiving car so your mistakes will be amplified tremendously.

couldnt agree with you more on everything you just said...viper is def an awesome car..but i can only see owning one if i were rich and had multiple vehicles so i wouldnt have to drive the viper everyday(HEAR ALOT ABOUT IT GETTING REAL HOT INSIDE!)...on the other hand though i can see me having a zo6 as a everyday driver..since you do own one, in your opinion is it a car that is a good daily driver or only on sundays?
