Even mid 10 for A/F the chances of washing the rings is slim.I would say getting into the 9's and your starting to risk it.

That was my thought as well Erik as I have been running 10.2 - 10.7 for nearly 8 months now. UGH!

Alot has to do with how much blow by you have on the rings as well.I would recommend shortening the oil change intervals if your running very rich.

The lower you go the better the chances no doubt, but I've personally seen it happen on a 324 BB/S (4v/4.6 based Modular) at ~10.4:1. Granted we're talking ~150 or so break-in miles (when the rings should have been seating) but nevertheless it happened. Motor had to come apart for a rehone. :stars:

I hate to even go here....but basing it on what a Ford modular has done isn't the most reliable......lol.That is a motor that I wouldn't trust to make it 100k miles......IMO

They are nearly indestructible in near stock form. John Mihovetz makes 2300hp with twin 72s using a stock aluminum block, stock forged crank, and stock heads. With built bottom ends NMRA pure street 4.6/4Vs (440rw) see north of 9500rpm with steel rods, Al Ps built 5.4 (600rw N/A) spins to 8700rpm regularly with 4.165" stroke and steel rods.
There are unmolested 2/4v 4.6/5.4s running around with 300k on the clock with zero issues.
They may not make the most power without FI (though my own built 5.5 will kick the shit out of my 6.1 all day long) but they are tough as nails end of story. Additionally there are literally hundreds of thousands of police/taxi spec crown vics running around with 100-200k miles with just normal maintenance performed. The 5.7/6.1 Hemi's would be lucky to have such a track record.
Regardless, running rich enough to wash the rings out of a motor isn't at all related to the longterm depandability/reliability of a motor. I can guarantee you that the tolerances required for a 4.6/5.4 are much tighter than for those of a 6.1.
