Please forgive my atrocious attempt at the MS Paint software...i've never claimed to be an artist of any kind, nor a photographer or many other talents I see on here...But just looking at the pic, you get the idea. if anyone has seen this already and has actuall pics on a car, post it up. Here is what I have planned for my stock wheels...the red pin stripe will be more defined, and the SRT on my stock wheels will also be in red. Opinions?
Couldn't find a good enough pic to get my idea across...I know you're on a lot of boards out there...Have you seen this done by anyone? Should I go flat or gloss black? Could this be PC'd, or do I have to go paint?
I gave that some thought as well Dave...I believe it would look best un broken...just a solid stripe all the way around on the lip edge.
I don't recall ever seeing this type design, Kyle. The black will be PC, but I think the red stripe will need to be paint? Best thing to do is to talk to your PCer.
The look is great...if you're going to do it, I'd highly recommend powder coating if it can be done. I've painted wheels before, and yeah it looked great for like a week. Then the rocks on the road, and dumb@ss tire techs made sure that I'd never do paint again. Depending on the size of the red stripe, you might just go to the auto parts store, and get the red pin stripe tape and run it around yourself. Should be easy enough, and if it gets damaged, you could pull it off, and re-stripe it again...Just an idea.
How well does that stuff hold up? Is it supa sticky? The guys that mount my tires know and love my car, they handle my wheels with care. Gloss or flat? I have flat black Chally stripes on hood now, and think it would set it all off if flat. Pic quality...see post #1
If you want my opinion I'd go with a flat black...gloss black is going to end up looking worse IMO when you get brake dust on them, than flat. As for the pin striping, I had some on my rims for a little while, and it was fine. No problems with it holding...until I decided to take it off...then I kinda wished it didn't hold up so well. LOL!
Dust isn't really an issue, Posi quiet pads and a bad ass car wash just down the street...I'm concerned with the tires being flat in color most of the time (without dressing) that the flat tire and wheel color would clash and look drab, where as the gloss would match the car paint and the tire be the offset color with more contrast and pop....wish someone else had already done it to see a pic. I may give that red striping a try.
I must have limited imagination... I just can't visualize how that would look on the car. Just the wheel looks awesome though. As for sheen... flat... imo. With gloss you'll clash with the gloss on the car itself in addition to the tire.
Use a satin or suede black. It's b/t gloss and flat. Gloss makes the tires look old if you dont always use tire shine (I personally never use the stuff), and a lot of times, flat black just looks like a dirty wheel and has that "chalkboard" look/feel to them...
