Navy E-6 here with 8 1/2 years in.

Hindsight being 20/20, I would not have changed a thing. It is much easier to advance in the Navy the the Chair force, but the trade off is the Chair force doesn't go through nearly as much shit as any other service......

But, being as your little girl is sick, the medical coverage will be worth it's weight in gold.

    ...Correction

    Billy (Sorry about that),

I have been in the Air Force, Active Duty, for 18 years. Spent 5 years enlisted and then accepted a scholarship, headed off to college and was commissioned in 1995. Your wife made a good choice, and the medical field will treat her right.

Feel free to contact me if you should have any questions

    Scott

    Preface: Friendly Sister Service jabbing

Come-on Seaman :drugs:...maybe if you were USMC or Army, I would let the Chair Force comment fly, but come on, the Navy...bro...

And the USAF doesn't go through nearly as much crap as the rest...what are you talking about...as an SF officer I can tell you for a fact my fellow enlisted defenders are in the thick of it...a new airmen can expect to deploy within their first 12 months as SF and within 24 months in the other career fields.

Easier to advance...not sure where you did your research...

But you are right about one thing, the medical benefits are very good!

And I do salute you for your service!

weather your Chair Force, a Seamen, Math And Reading Is Not Essential, or Aren't Really Marines Yet, you get shit on and have your life signed away for years at a time and are only making peanuts

All based on perspective...your right service members are not going to get rich by serving, and we need our representatives to continue to fight congress to raise our benefits...but individuals seek out recruiters, enlist or accept a commission and take an oath to serve their country...today, service to your country is a choice (voluntary)...there are positive and negative aspects to serving, no doubt...but life is about choices...

FYI....I was never a "seaman". I was an Airman...aviation FTW.

How long does it take to make E-6 in the USAF?? A little longer then the six years it took me, I'm sure....:shifty:

And lets not talk deployments.....helloooooo.....I spent 9 months on a boat(more then once)...in the middle of nowhere.....in a room with 280 Marines. Not airdale marines...no no..that would be asking too much. No, I was stuck with the grunts. And, while not on the beach somewhere shooting things, all they do is make noise and stink....oh god, did they stink.:surprise:

But, I did my sea time. I am on shore duty for another year...then I'm up for orders to who knows where......Maybe I'll see you boys in the sandbox.

but yeah...medical and dental, covered. yay:cheers:

I did a little research, and you are right on promotion to E-6 for AF...depending on career field, it ranges from 7yr up to 12 yrs TIS.

Talking deployments...right there with you...we average 6 months deployed, 4 months home and back out for another six...been this way since the start of the war...me personally, I have over 4 yrs in the middle east (Iraq/Kuwait/Qatar/UAE), boots on the ground leading troops and getting ready to add another six months...

Bottomline...we are all in the mix...and I am proud to be associated with my sister service brethen...(though we have fun with the trash talking don't we)...

Enjoy the shore duty bro...you deserve it! :tip:
