Rotorpros / Hawk Pads

With tax return this past Friday; I ordered the SRT8 street package from Rotorpros.

This package includes: four zinc coated cross-drilled / slotted rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Once they arrive and during the install in about a month.....I will post a thread with pictures. Not really sure if a DIY thread will be required....seems like quite a few of those have been done already.

The total package cost was $500 and shipping was included.

Definitely let ya know.....there are two guys in the Colorado club I am a member of and they give their SRT4 packages....high marks. Both have had "no issues and highly recommend them."

 

A nice package was on the porch this afternoon - the rotors have arrived and the pads are still in route. The entire package will be installed in a couple of months....will post pics when they are done.

Well - after a very long and interesting seven hours yesterday - the Rotorpros have been installed. With great tips and advise from several people - thanks Ron....this upgrade would have been a nightmare without their input.

To summarize - started about 9 and completed around 4 in the afternoon. I was in no hurry and I am sure with Lee showing around 2...it slowed me a bit but that's ok. I have helped several friends in the past change pads / rotors, etc and I have to say....this Brembo setup on the SRT8 is the easiest I have every seen / done. Reading several other SRT8 DIY threads on these brakes....helped with the mind set of very basic removal and installation.

Installation steps - basic jack up / jack stand for safety and removal of wheel.

Use center punch to remove the two pins and spring plate from caliper. NO NEED to buy a special tool to compress the caliper pistons to remove the pads.....simple finger pressure used to compress. Pads are removed and now to the caliper itself. Fronts have a 21mm bolt and the rear has a 18mm - two each. I was raised to, when buying sockets, always buy a deep well vs a short well. Well.....there was some clearance issues with the deep well so I had to go back to Sears and get two open / boxed in wrenches.....my tip to anyone doing this....no need to spend the money on the sockets.....just get the wrenches.

Spent a ton of time trying to break / loosen the two caliper bolts....the plant robot over did it.....with them finally removed - rotor washers removed - the rotor came right off. Replaced with the Rotorpros.....caliper reinstalled, and the new Hawk HPS pads.....caliper pins loaded top to bottom with the spring plate.....done.

After about a week or so.....I will give an update to how the braking is....not thinking it will change all that much.

 

Just with the few places I had to go today....the initial feel is not much different then the OE pads.

Please understand my whole purpose to the upgrade was to get rid of the OE pads with it's terrible dust to something better. The rotors with the Hawks seems, just for the first day of driving....a great upgrade.

 

Thanks for the suggestions about bedding the pads....read a quote somewhere and confirmed it from Rich at Rotorpros......these rotors come zink coated and until the zink coat is removed...don't waste the time.

After installing them yesterday, I did; however, follow the steps provided by Hawk. Up to 30-35 and brake to 10....complete six times and the pads are set.

With the rotors being crossed drilled and slotted....I was told the grooves in the rotors themselves will help the bedding of the pads. I was told by a mechanic by trade, in the CO club, these grooves, etc will help big time in the bedding....the only time you really have to bed the pads is when the rotors are smooth.

 

Dave - hit it right on top of the head....for those with military back ground...Dave you were spot on.

Driving to the Peterson AFB this morning to get state tax forms completed...I noticed a huge difference is driving there. The pedal had a better response and even seemed to get firmer. Have to leave in about an hour for work so....I am assuming over the next day or so....it might even get better.
