Rap vs Rock

Alright I need other's opinions on this as I find a co-worker of mine ignorant.

I listen to rock, he says, "What makes you Puerto Rican if you listen to rock?"

He listens to rap, in which I'll admit I've listened to in the past but was just a faze.

He thinks rap is "rock n roll". Tells other co-workers that they can't relate.

I work a 10 hr shift, from 6-10am the radio is on a mixed music channel as all other stations are busy talking and ranting early in the morning. As soon as it hits 10am he puts it on the rap station... from 10am to 4:30pm. There's 4 other people that work in that department and if we try to change the station he gets defensive.

To clear somethings up, its not his radio. It was there before he started working there and 2 co-workers were in that department before he got there. Yet, if you change the radio station when he's not around first thing he does when he comes back is change it back to the rap station. If you try to change the station, he tells you... "Do it and see what happens". Pretty much a threat and wanting to physcially fight over a radio. Which I find pathetic. If your wondering too, this guy is in his 40's.

So this has been an on going thing for weeks now. Well today I finally told him the way it is. Another co-worker stated, "Oh snap, Jesus knew what rap artist that was just now on the radio". I responded, "yes I did know as that was a song I heard when I listened to rap but I no longer do as that was a faze." So the radio hog responds, "Man, listen to you... your still young. Listen to what you just said, you make no f'ing sense... you don't know sh**". I responded back with, "and you do? Your the one who thinks rap is rock, so I guess rock is rap then?". He then says, "Man, f***. Everything is rock n roll". I then say, "Oh yeah then why don't you change the radio station to something else instead of having this on 80% of the day, not everyone wants to listen to this sh** all day". He then says, "Nahhh, man... go ahead and change it... see what happens." I told him, "what you want to fight over a stupid radio? Your pathetic and ignorant and for not wanting to change it your f***ing stubborn". I walked away after that.

He says, "rock corrupts kids". He says, "rock is for skin heads".

I completely disagree, as I've heard rap songs on the radio direspecting/degrading women. Such song lyrics as, "supersoak that h**". Also I've heard something so stupid the other day as, "Playa please, I'm the macronni with the cheese".

If you like rap, I have no problem with it. But I just don't seem to comprehend the views of this co-worker.

:rock: yeah buddy haha. I was thinking more so of just ripping the antenna out of the stereo.

 

Wu-tang oh snap... used to listen to them long time ago. I played the game on playstation back in the day too that they had. You could put some wu-tang music cd in it and it would play some sound tracks in the game.

It wouldn't ruin it for everyone since everyone is just suffering now hearing it all day. No music would be better if he can't share the radio with everyone. I guess if the same song wouldn't come on every 15 minutes we probably wouldn't complain all the time. But I'm tired of that one song, "I'm single again, I'm back on the grind, blah blah". It's only about 25-50 times before I go home EVERY single DAY!

Lol, its a stereo system... wish it was just a radio. This has seperated speakers and all. If I were the supervisor I would take it away until everyone can agree on it. But the supervisor doesn't get into the fights/arguments. He likes to stay neutral.

At my last job, when I was the operator of my station... I was the only one allowed to touch the radio. The worker's under me had to ask if I could switch the station. They were not allowed to touch it. That's how it should be at this job. That way the person in charge makes the call... not the workers.

As soon as I have more time in this place I will make a complaint to HR and as well tell them of any more threats he makes about the radio. I'm not the only one he has threaten about it.
