Here's what I'd like. A basic push to start button in place of where the key is inserted as well as a 3 position toggle switch (off/acc/on) and a hidden kill switch. My questions are as follows: Is it possible to do this and bypass the need for the key fob in the ignition? If so, is this something Joe Schmoe the automotive electronics installer can do? If so, can it be done relatively cheaply (a few hundred bucks)? If no to #1, would there be a way you can get it "programmed" via some kind of special tune so you dont need the key fob?

so its just put key in...push button...

is this what you want mark?...or do you purely want a just need the key in your pocket thing?

if this is what your looking for i'd be willing to bet with a little bit of fabbing up you could just get the Viper one to work for ya

Well, you have to turn the key to unlock the steering column, etc... Then push the button. That's it!

The new Nissan and Infiniti has the PUSH BUTTON, but no key is needed. You just have a small remote which has a signal that is read by the car letting it know it can start. Then push the button and your ready to go. No key.

You would think so! I'll call PORK CHOP at the dealer and see what he can tell me. Let me take a guess though, "UUUUUUUHHHHHHH I HAVE NO IDEA"! Great thanks for all your help................

neither. i dont want the key at all. the only thing ill use it for is to remote lock and unlock. i dont need that proximity stuff like the nissans have, thats why it will have a hidden kill switch
yeah it shouldnt be too hard, my laptop has a fingerprint reader and i love it! (the reader not my laptop) are you seriously making that though?
im pretty sure the lx's dont have a steering lock. i may be wrong but mine has never locked.
