Folks, I'm not very good at asking for help, but here goes. My wife has been diagnosed with Achalasia (a rare esophgeal disorder). I won't go into details, but she is loosing two to three pounds a week, and has trouble even swollowing water. There are treatments, and a surgical procedure to help correct it. However, we're having lots of trouble getting help from the doctors we have seen so far (seeing a different doctor tomorrow). I ask for your prayers to help us get the care she needs. Thank You, Mark & Dorinda
Prayers coming your way mark.....if you cant get any where with the doctors let me know...I am on the Welmont Foundation board and may be able to help out....just PM me if I can help..
My son was born with esophageal atresia which means he didn't have one, spent the first year of his life in the hospital to reconstruct it. He is thriving now and no one can tell the difference unless we tell them (or they see all his scars under his shirt). Oh and now he east like a horse and loves food. If I can help feel free to ask, you & your wife will be in my prayers P.S. What about dilatation? They put a balloon in there and inflate thus stretching it open? Wonder if that would temporarily help.
I have said a prayer for your wife, may a miracle happen for you and your wife, all things are possible in GOD!
Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement. It's truly amazing that so many people whom we have never met are concerned and willing to offer resources. Again, THANK YOU! We just got back from our visit, and have been refered to a UVA next week for more tests, and a surgical consult. Our last endo doctor refered us to Vanderbuilt, but we can't even get a consult there 'till December. Now at least we can get some straight answers before Dorinda gets any weaker. Thank You!
I was first diagnosed with diabetes at Vanderbilt and they were really great for us, even enrolled me in a study so I could get the high end care/therapy for free. Hope you're able to get answers soon.
Prayers are on the way...good luck to you and your wife. I hope she gets the attention she needs a lot sooner than later.
*UPDATE* Prayer Request The UVA appointment went well, and Dorinda was scheduled for a Heller's Myotomy ( think I spelled that right) ASAP. The procedure involves basically splitting the muscles of the esophegus lengthways (more involved than that, but I'll spare the gory details). The surgery went well, and she was even released two days early! We've been back home for a week now, and things are looking good! Dorinda hasn't had to cough up any food since the surgery. She's on a full liquid diet for another week, then slowly work her way back to more solid foods. All has gone well, Thank you for your prayers, encouragement & concern!
