So, I was thinking I'd take an hour and hardwire the radar detector into the truck. 38 hours later..... I need another RC owner to check their power outlets for me. I need to know which ones are switched (ACC-ON position of the key gives it power; key out has no power) and which are full-time power (always on). The 3 outlets are: - Cig. lighter - Pop-up - Armrest My pop-up one is not working and IIRC, that one is switched (ACC-ON). I'd love to hear from the QC guys as well, regarding their Rear power outlet. TIA
Not sure what you want. I think you only want it powered when the engine is running? I believe the cigarette lighter is the one you want. Not on with ACC (if the motor is not running and you're moving fast enough to need a radar detector you've got other more pressing problems). Maybe it's the other way around? In any event the cigarette lighter power should be switched differently than all the ACC outlets. I suggest copying invisicord's idea. Get long, thin, slightly concave terminators to shove into the holes in the back of your mirror (are your mirrors the same?) with the existing wire.
The cig. lighter socket is FULL-TIME ON. The power socket in the armrest is FULL-TIME ON. I am looking for the socket that is NOT full-time on. The one that requires the key to be turned to the "ACC" position before the socket gets power. I already have the cord 99% hidden, with only the last 2 inches looking more OEM than the original wiring. (BTW-I think I covered dealing with businesses like Invisicord here: http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4691 )
Wow. That's interesting. They did the trucks completely different. I guess they figured you guys are more likely to need to have cigars fired up ALL the time instead of just when you're driving. Should be able to tap into the power for the radio. Would that do it? or are you looking for an actual cigarette lighter socket?
I was looking for a 12VDC line to tap into that's switched (ACC ON) and not on a dimmer to hardwire the RD. The other reason for doing this is to repair the pop-up socket. I rarely use it, but just knowing that it's not working drives me nuts. I found out earlier from another forum that the pop-up socket *is* indeed ACC-ON switched. Now comes the fun part: finding the short.
