Don't know how many pilots we have here...but you need balls: Here is how it looks from a pilot's angle. A-6 landing on a carrier Here's video footage of an A-6 approaching an aircraft carrier and landing. It was taken from the cockpit by the copilot. The conditions are ideal...... calm sea, daylight and a stable aircraft. This for all of us who have not had the privilege - - With the volume up, you can even hear the power changes necessary to maintain precision glide slope and prepare for bolter ( a.k.a. abort the landing) in the event the arrest wire is missed. Feels like you are in the aircraft. Imagine what this would be like at night in IMC (instrument meteorological conditions - a.k.a. pea soup) This is a very neat video. If you look very carefully, shortly before the plane touches down you can see the "meatball" to the left; the orange light between the row of green lights that tells the pilot is on heading and on slope.
im a total wannabe. i would love to be that talented an aviator and be able to land in the conditions that these guys deal with on a routine basis.
Pretty cool, I saw that 24 hours aday when I was stationed on the Independence. I worked on the flight deck during the gulf war. I was a purple shirt
My dad worked out at HAFB when the flight simulator used to be the F-4 phantom. He used to sneek me out at night and he would let me and my sister fly the simulator. When General Dynamics took over and introduced the F-16 my dad got tranferred over to Kingsley air base in Oregon. I only got to fly that a few times before they didnt allow it anymore.
Hill Field in my day...that may give you an idea how old I am. I also owe a lot t A6 pilots that used to provide close air support...I remember a special day that even without any ordinance left they kept the NVA off my back by strafing so low that it kept their faces buried in the rice paddies.
Awesome video Roy!!! It amazes me how they can land on the deck... How long is the training for them???
thats pretty freaking sweet...just gotta be a passenger on a plane landing on one... once they sprayed you down from crapping yourself about 50 times...you'd be good hahaha
